There are just three days left in the summer transfer window, and for Chris Davies at Birmingham City, it’s been a busy one.
Blues have perhaps not spent as much as many would have thought so far following promotion to the Championship, but Tom Wagner has significant financial plans in the West Midlands, with time still remaining in the window.
Davies’ side were beaten 2-0 by Leicester City on Friday evening, with the team failing to get back on form following their mid-week Carabao Cup exit to Port Vale.
However, Birmingham are a club who love to make a statement, and their head coach has outlined where they need to improve before Monday’s 7pm deadline.

Kyogo Furuhashi, who was not at his best on Friday, remains the star signing for Blues so far this summer, and it could be said that the West Midlands outfit have all but finalised their forward line, although losing Lyndon Dykes would leave the team needing cover.

However, it is clear to see that a little bit more work is still needed in the defensive positions – especially at full-back.
It’s a situation that Davies is aware of at Birmingham, and after his team’s defeat, he explained (via: Birmingham Live): “I think we definitely need reinforcements in that area (defence). We’ll see what we can do higher up the pitch.
“There’s not going to be loads happening, there’s not enough time for that, but we do need to finish this squad off and that’s what we’re going to try and do in the next couple of days.
“We do need reinforcements in certain areas but there’s a lot of moving parts to that, like at most clubs. I will pick that up now. We have to see what the squad looks like. Everyone is trying, we will see what happens.”

Chris Davies needed the wake-up call of Port Vale and Leicester City
There’s no denying that Birmingham have had a strong start to the campaign, and the defeat to Leicester should not be seen as a major problem.
However, it was perhaps a necessary loss in the grand scheme of things as it did highlight where Blues are weaker in comparison to their direct rivals, with depth needed at full-back – in particular on the left side.

Abdul Fatawu was excellent for Leicester against Birmingham and Davies will know that his side can ill-afford to allow players with his quality as much space and time as he got over the coming weeks and months.
Nevertheless, with three days to go in the transfer window, any new deals will have to be sourced quickly, but this is one of Tom Wagner’s strengths.
