Burnley are preparing for life back in the Premier League after an incredible campaign in the Championship, and they have now released their retained list.
The Clarets are in need of new signings after a very disappointing 2023/24 season, and Scott Parker will be hoping that he can do what Vincent Kompany was unable to do by keeping the Lancashire outfit in the top flight.
Just two players have been let go by Burnley, and with four of their five loan signings returning permanently after the summer, there is a strong base to work from at Turf Moor in the transfer window following a 100-point Championship campaign.

Nevertheless, there will be a keen eye on the Clarets in the coming weeks and months, with some of their top stars going to be targeted, after one of their January signings was confirmed to be departing the club after just four months.

Jonjo Shelvey’s future is confirmed as Burnley move on from the midfielder
Jonjo Shelvey arrived at Turf Moor in the winter from Turkish side Eyüpspor, with Parker looking to use the midfielder’s experience in the run-in to help deal with any potential injury problems.

However, if the 33-year-old was planning on making a name for himself in England once again, then he failed as he made just four appearances for Burnley in all competitions.
Just two of those came in the Championship, with the ex-Newcastle United and Liverpool player featuring for just 11 minutes on the pitch in the second tier in 2024/25.
His final appearance came on February 21, when he came off the bench to help the Clarets see out a 4-0 victory over Sheffield Wednesday, before failing to make the bench in the final 12 games of the season as his team finished as runners up to Leeds United, in a record-breaking season for Burnley.

Jonjo Shelvey may be hoping to stay in the Championship
While his time at Turf Moor was always going to come to a conclusion this summer, Shelvey may be hoping that he can keep himself in the Championship for 2025/26 after struggling in Türkiye before his move to Burnley.
The likes of Wrexham will be looking for players who have Premier League experience, with the Red Dragons already interested in Tom Cairney and a move to Wales could be the perfect way for the former England international to put himself back on the map.
Nevertheless, Burnley have made the correct decision in letting go of the 33-year-old and it shows that they are not ready to rest on their laurels ahead of their Premier League return.
