Burnley duo may have missed out on Championship title, but they both just scooped major EFL awards

It was a strong yet disappointing end to the season for Burnley, who missed out on the Championship title despite racking up a massive 100 points, but it’s not all doom and gloom.

Burnley only lost two games all season, conceded just 16 goals across the 46 games, and achieved a record-breaking points-haul, but it wasn’t enough.

Scott Parker’s side were utterly relentless, enjoying an unbeaten run stretching back to November, but Leeds United still managed to pip them to the Championship title on goal difference.

The good news is, as we revealed earlier this week, both Parker and Josh Brownhill were nominated for the Championship monthly awards for April. Now, they’ve gone and bagged the prize, too.

Scott Parker wins Championship Manager of the Month award

The judging panel for the Manager of the Month award, comprising of former Barnsley manager Danny Wilson, Sky Sports pundit Don Goodman, and Sky Bet EFL trader Ivor Davies, selected Burnley boss Scott Parker as their winner.

On Parker’s triumph, Wilson said: “What an effort from Scott and his side to push Leeds United to the final game to see who will be champions.

“Six unbeaten games and 16 goals to their credit, equating to 16 points in April including terrific results against promotion candidates Sheffield United, Coventry and Millwall.”

Goodman added: “Burnley had a difficult fixture list and were under pressure in a three-horse race for the automatic promotion places. Scott Parker’s team navigated it brilliantly and confirmed their place back in the top flight of English football.

“It was a monumental season for The Clarets who only conceded 16 goals in their 46 games, their defensive prowess will be crucial as they take to life in the Premier League next season.”

Parker got the better of Leeds United manager Daniel Farke this time, as well as beating Blackburn’s Valerien Ismael and Millwall’s Alex Neil to the award.

Josh Brownhill wins Championship Player of the Month award

Meanwhile, Don Goodman, Ivor Davies, and EFL Chief Executive Trevor Birch opted to give the Player of the Month award for April to Burnley’s Josh Brownhill.

On Brownhill’s displays in April, Goodman wrote: “Josh Brownhill has been their standout performer in terms of goals and what’s even more impressive is that he’s a midfielder.

“He really has been ‘captain fantastic’ all season and 3 goals and 3 assists in April including both goals in that crucial win over Sheffield Utd capped off a fine season”

Davies added: “Burnley captain Josh Brownhill enjoyed a sensational season, delivering the best form of his career. Operating from central midfield he remarkably netted 18 goals, nearly claiming the Championship’s Golden Boot – falling just one goal short of Leeds striker Joel Piroe.”

He scooped the award ahead of Leeds United’s title-winning hero Manor Solomon, Millwall’s goal machine Mihailo Ivanovic, and Swansea’s underrated defender, Harry Darling.
