Burnley supporters were sent into dreamland on Monday following a 2-1 victory over Sheffield United at Turf Moor.

An intense Championship promotion battle promised to deliver a dramatic day, and when Leeds United thrashed Stoke City 6-0 in the earlier kick-off, it was over to Burnley to seal their fate against Sheffield United.

Scott Parker’s men arrived at Turf Moor with a five-point buffer on the Blades, knowing that a win would seal their return to the top-flight.

So, it was no surprise to see captain fantastic Josh Brownhill score a brace, including one strike from the penalty spot, as Burnley were promoted to the Premier League.

Parker has done a fantastic job in transforming a dressing room that lacked confidence following their relegation last term, with the Clarets bouncing back at the first time of asking.

Scott Parker reacts to Burnley winning promotion back to the Premier League

There will be scenes of celebration on the streets of Burnley tonight, and Parker will be on top of the world after delivering their main aim this season.

Burnley’s defensive record has been immense, only conceding 15 goals in 44 matches this term, with the Clarets now eyeing up 100 points in their final two games.

Speaking to Sky Sports at full-time, Parker pinpointed ‘togetherness’ as the major factor behind their success, creating a tight-knit group.

“It means everything. We set on a mission to get promoted and there were a lot of ups and down. It has been nothing short of incredible,” Parker said.

“So proud of the young group, who have committed and given everything.

“We got to the Premier League. Hard work, as cliche as it sounds, but it’s the hard facts. I build my whole life on hard work and I tried to instil that in this group.

“They committed to it and with that, we have quality. The major thing for me is the togetherness. It has got us to the place we need to be.”

Parker says Burnley promotion is his best

Parker has won two promotions from the Championship previously, leading both Fulham and Bournemouth to the Premier League.

But Burnley fans will be pleased to know that the Englishman describes this one as his favourite, explaining how it feels ‘special’ after going through a difficult time following his sacking by Club Brugge in March 2023.

“This one feels better! It feels special,” Parker added. “Bumps in the road as a manager but it is not about me.

“Losing my job at Bournemouth and going to [Club] Brugge and losing my job. I took a year out and knew there was a big challenge here.

“I am relieved. The spotlight shines on players and myself but the sacrifice families make, they deserve these moments.”

All eyes will be on who wins the title out of Leeds and Burnley but for now, the players, fans and Parker will rejoice in the celebrations.
