Calum Chambers issues rallying cry ahead of Cardiff City’s crunch clash vs West Brom, it’s all or nothing

Cardiff City remain three points adrift of Championship safety with Saturday’s opponents West Brom, and Norwich City, still left to play in their battle for survival.

Cardiff City host West Brom on Saturday in a game which will prove pivotal in their Championship relegation fight.

The Bluebirds sit 23rd in the Championship table, with under-pressure Omer Riza recently removed from his position, leading club captain Aaron Ramsey installed as caretaker manager for the remaining fixtures.

Visiting West Brom will also be led by an interim head coach, club veteran James Morrison, after Tony Mowbray was dismissed following their failed top-six finish attempt.

Ahead of Saturday’s relegation six-pointers, senior Bluebirds star Calum Chambers has issued a never-say-die statement with Cardiff staring down the barrel of demotion to League One.

Calum Chambers shares adamant statement ahead of West Brom

Cardiff are in a precarious position, needing to take maximum points from their final two clashes against West Brom and Norwich City whilst also relying on other results to survive.

Defeat against the Baggies would almost certainly spell relegation, given their dreadful minus 23 goal difference, and a draw will mean checking the scoreboards on Saturday to extend their season.

Victory over the Baggies would take the Bluebirds’ relegation scrap to the final day.

Cardiff defender Chambers is well aware of the mammoth task at hand and has revealed his side’s focus for the Baggies visit.

Chambers told BBC Sport: “We know what we need to do and what’s required,

“All our focus is on the next game and it’s a must-win for us to get three points.

“As a group, we all know that is the game we need to go and win, so we are all focused on that and that’s what we are doing our best to do.

“I have every belief in this team and squad, the whole season I’ve been saying the same thing. It’s unfortunate the situation we are in, it’s down to us now to put it right and go out and win the remaining two games we’ve got – that’s all we can do.”

Chambers may be adamant that it’s a “must-win”, but if the Bluebirds perform as they did in the reverse fixture, it could commit them to Championship relegation.

Cardiff City can’t afford repeat of reverse fixture vs West Brom

Pundits have predicted an “unhelpful” result for Cardiff this weekend against the Baggies.

In the relegation mini-league, the Bluebirds are definitely the weakest outfit, and it would take a monumental turnaround from interim boss Ramsey and his side to defy the demotion odds.

Another factor working against Cardiff, is how the reverse fixture fared when Riza’s team travelled to the Hawthorns with Carlos Corberan at the helm.

In that 0-0 stalemate, Riza’s Cardiff enjoyed only 36% possession, creating only one big chance which was squandered and failed to register a singular shot on target.

If Ramsey’s side replicate that lacklustre attacking performance on Saturday, they will be nervously looking over their shoulders for results to go their way.

With Cardiff only scoring one goal in their last three outings, their attacking prospects, and their chances of dodging the dreaded drop, seem as dry as their goal record.
