Luton Town forward Carlton Morris has given a brutally honest interview after relegation to League One was confirmed.

Luton Town have had relegation to League One confirmed after their recent defeat to West Brom.

Hull City’s draw with Portsmouth meant that Luton Town only needed to claim a point against an out-of-form West Brom side at The Hawthorns, but it wasn’t to be as the Hatters’ defensive shortcomings were pivotal.

Following the game, Luton Town boss Matt Bloomfield suggested it was a ‘really disappointing performance’ from his side, one that has led to a ‘particularly painful moment’ in the football club’s history.

Carlton Morris was also on post-match duties following the defeat, in which he gave a candid interview, showing no mercy when discussing the ‘terrible season’ that Luton Town have produced.

Luton Town striker Carlton Morris’ brutally honest words on West Brom defeat and relegation

After the defeat to West Brom, Carlton Morris faced the media, where he was unafraid to show his true feelings following the club’s relegation to League One, a season after they came down from the Premier League.

“What an awful day today and it’s been a terrible season by all things considered.” said Morris post-match. “It was just signs of the sort of form that got us into this mess, really.

“I’m not too sure where that’s come from. The lads have dug so deep in the last few weeks and whether it’s an energy output thing or the emotion of the day drained it, I’m honestly not sure.

“I have no idea, but what’s done is done. Now we need to move on, obviously grieve for a bit, but focus turns to next season. Before the game in the warm-up, the lads were at it, they were brilliant, we went in with confidence, but I’ll have to watch the goals back, watch the game back to see what happened to be honest with you.

“We’ve obviously given ourselves too big of a mountain to climb, unfortunately.

“Ultimately today could have gone better, but not putting too much onus on just today, it was the earlier season form that got us into this mess. We’ve obviously given ourselves too big a mountain to climb. You can rattle off six, seven contributing factors to what led us to the position we’re now for sure. It’s unfortunate.

“Obviously I’m not going to go into detail on that, but it is what it is, we need to get our heads on next season.”

Luton Town suffered relegation after having an inferior goal difference to Hull City, which ultimately stemmed from the defensive issues that Matt Bloomfield’s side have had.

Luton must keep strong character like Carlton Morris following the Championship relegation

After dropping down to League One, which is the result of back-to-back relegations, Luton Town will find next season difficult, unless there is a major overhaul in personnel.

There are several players that should clearly be moved on to pastures new in order for the Hatters to undergo a rebuild, hopefully under Bloomfield, whose League One pedigree will be crucial in getting the club back on track next season.

As well as Bloomfield, the likes of Morris could also be crucial next season because of the necessity of having experienced leaders in the side, something that the Luton striker has shown to be based on his post-match interview, one which shows him able to speak truthfully about the situation the club is in, a trait that is needed if they are to move past it.
