Luton Town suffered back-to-back relegations on Saturday with a bitterly disappointing 5-3 defeat to West Brom.
After beating Coventry City 2-1 last weekend, Luton Town went into their clash at the Hawthorns with the Championship destiny in their hands.
The Hatters were a point above 22nd-place Hull City, who visited Portsmouth in a bid to save their skin this season.
However, whilst the Tigers secured Championship safety with a point at Fratton Park, Luton’s relegation to League One was confirmed with an embarrassing 5-3 defeat to West Brom.
Luton made unwanted history, becoming only the fourth side to suffer successive relegations from the Premier League, with Matt Bloomfield summarising his thoughts post-match.

Matt Bloomfield comments on ‘disappointing’ Luton Town relegation
When Luton’s supporters needed the players to turn up most, they capitulated against a Baggies side with nothing to play for.
James Morrison’s men opened up a 5-1 lead inside the hour as the hosts capitalised on some woeful defending from the visitors, who left their manager angered by how they suffered relegation.
Speaking via BBC Sport post-match, Bloomfield said: “It is a particularly painful moment for us and everyone associated with our football club.
“Really disappointing performance considering the day and the performance that we needed to get ourselves out of where we were.”
Bloomfield also offered sympathy towards the travelling contingent at the Hawthorns, having witnessed the heartache of relegation twice in just under 12 months while commenting on their dire defending.
“Sorry to our supporters for traveling up and down the country, supporting us this season. We understand their disappointment and anger right now,” he added.
“I don’t know [where that performance came from]. The goals we gave away were so disappointing. We’ve been incredibly resilient in the last two months to really shore up at the back and unfortunately today it just wasn’t there.”
Luton will expect a raft of departures
At the start of the 2024/25 campaign, many tipped Luton to be challenging for one of the Championship promotion spots.
The Hatters kept most of their squad from the Premier League, including clinical forward duo of Elijah Adebayo and Carlton Morris.
But, of course, things didn’t plan out how most predicted, and now they’re needing a full reset ahead of a season in the third tier.
That should include the departures of Adebayo, Morris, Tahith Chong, Alfie Doughty and several others who are good enough to play in the second-tier, and in some cases, the Premier League.
