While the Addicks have seen their share of ups and downs in recent times, including spells in the lower leagues, they were a strong force in the post-war period, winning the FA Cup in 1947. They also enjoyed a successful spell in the Premier League from the late 1990s to the mid-2000s.

Born on August 15, 1982, Johnnie Jackson was an influential player known for his leadership qualities and powerful left foot. Throughout his career, he made a significant impact with 279 appearances, contributing an impressive 55 goals from midfield. His commitment and passion for the game made him a firm favourite among fans. Jackson often led by example, demonstrating a strong work ethic and an eye for a goal.

4 – Bill Kiernan

Bill Kiernan, born on May 22, 1925, was a true presence on the pitch. Over his career, he accumulated 279 appearances, during which he found the net 64 times. Kiernan’s ability to consistently score goals made him a vital asset to his team. He had the knack for being in the right place at the right time, making him one to watch for defenders.

3 – Gordon Hurst

Born on October 9, 1924, Gordon Hurst was a heroic figure, renowned for his longevity and consistent performance. He made a remarkable 372 appearances. During his extensive career, Hurst scored 75 goals, emphasising his ability to contribute greatly in attack. His dedication made him an invaluable member of the squad over many seasons.

2 – Stuart Leary

Stuart Leary, born on April 30, 1933, was a talented forward celebrated for his goal-scoring ability in fewer appearances. Despite making 191 appearances, he notched an impressive 81 goals, demonstrating an exceptional goals-to-game ratio. Leary’s clinical finishing and attacking instincts made him a constant threat to opposing defenders.

1 – Charlie Vaughan

Born on April 23, 1921, Charlie Vaughan stands out as a true goal-scoring legend. In his 230 appearances, he netted 91 goals, making him the top scorer among this group. Vaughan’s remarkable consistency and instincts in front of goal set him apart. His ability to find the back of the net with such regularity made him a respected figure.

Charlton’s current top scorer comes as no surprise

Matty Godden was Charlton Athletic’s top goalscorer in the recently concluded 2024-2025 season, bagging 22 goals across all competitions.

He showed his prolific nature, with 18 of those goals coming in League One, where he averaged a goal every 140 minutes.

Godden’s contributions were vital, especially in the latter part of the season and during the League One Play-Offs.

He was in particularly good form heading into the play-offs, scoring 8 goals in ten games leading up to them.

Notable performances include a two-goal haul against Burton Albion in May 2025 and a decisive goal in Charlton’s 1-0 win over Wycombe Wanderers in the play-off semi-final in May 2025, which helped book their place in the final.

His consistent goal-scoring was a significant factor in Charlton’s promotion push.
