Coventry City are flying under Frank Lampard, and one Sky Blues star has really taken his game to another level.

Frank Lampard has not allowed play-off heartbreak to slow him down at Coventry City.

The Sky Blues were beaten by Sunderland in last season’s play-off semi-finals, but have hit back in style to start this season.

Coventry beat Birmingham City 3-0 on Saturday to sit second in the Championship table, having recorded three goals and four draws in seven games.

Victor Torp has taken his game to a new level under Frank Lampard

Saturday’s win over Birmingham was a sweet one for Coventry fans, and Victor Torp was at the heart of it.

The Dane scored Coventry’s third against the Blues, taking his tally to five goals in seven Championship games this season.

That would be a sensational record for a striker, never mind a midfielder.

Lampard knows all about scoring goals from midfield, and Torp appears to be taking a leaf out of his manager’s book.

BBC Sport Coventry & Warwickshire have now posted a statistic about Torp, as the midfielder has scored 10 league goals under Lampard.

No player has scored more under Lampard; Jack Rudoni and Haji Wright are both level on 10 league goals.

The difference from Torp’s goalscoring numbers under Mark Robins is stark.

In 36 games under Robins, Torp recorded two goals and one assist after arriving from Sarpsborg.

Torp has now bagged 10 goals and four assists in 31 games under Lampard, which is quite a remarkable improvement.

Lampard appears to have unlocked something in Torp, and the £2.1million Coventry paid to sign him in 2024, as noted by the Coventry Telegraph, now looks like a bargain.

Victor Torp’s attacking threat will be key for Coventry City after Jack Rudoni blow

Much of the attention in Coventry’s midfield has been on Rudoni.

Rudoni is another midfielder to have taken his game up a notch under Lampard, racking up 10 goals and 10 assists in 38 games under him.

Southampton wanted Rudoni over the summer, but Coventry stood firm to keep him at the Coventry Building Society Arena.

Rudoni is now set to miss ‘weeks’ of action, having missed the win over Birmingham City with a calf injury.

That is a serious setback for Coventry, but Torp can certainly cushion the blow by continuing to make an impact in the final third.
