Chris Davies is under the spotlight after Birmingham City’s 3-0 Championship defeat against Coventry City on Saturday.
Birmingham City fell to a third defeat in four on Saturday, losing 3-0 against Frank Lampard’s Coventry City at the CBS Arena.
Despite Birmingham City’s £12million summer spending spree, manager Chris Davies still seems to be lacking in certain areas: both in terms of his squad and also in terms of his management.
At least that’s the view of some fans: after the Coventry City game, Birmingham City fans voiced their concern about Davies who many think isn’t up to the job in the Championship.

Chris Davies bemoans refereeing in Coventry City 3-0 Birmingham City
If Davies wasn’t already losing a few fans at Birmingham City, his comments after the game certainly won’t do him any favours. Instead of admitting defeat and taking responsibility for some poor tactical decisions and a poor set up, he spent the bulk of his post-match interview bemoaning Coventry City players kicking the ball away.
Discussing Jack Robinson’s two yellow cards and his eventual red card in the 42nd minute, Davies spent a good 90 seconds talking about how Coventry players kept kicking the ball away when Birmingham City had a dead ball situation, saying: “Ultimately the the most decisive factor in today’s game was us receiving two yellow cards, and losing one of our defenders.
“What was happening throughout that half was they were kicking the ball away all the time from our free kicks. That’s a yellow card and it was in plain sight of all the officials and they did nothing about it. And with that type of thing, that is a yellow card that could lead to another yellow card and a red card.
“And it’s extremely frustrating for me. I’ve said it a few times. I’ve said it in almost every game we’ve had, if my players go and kick the ball away, I’d say to them, ‘You’re going to get booked. Don’t do that’. Bright [Osayi-Samuel] got booked at Blackburn Rovers for doing this.
“I think it puts you in a vulnerable position as a player being on a yellow card, but they had blatant examples of kicking the ball away every time we were trying to take a free kick, which is clear a yellow card as you can possibly get because of the rules.”
Birmingham City’s next five fixtures
The season certainly started well for Birmingham City who got their first in against Blackburn Rovers back in August.
But three defeats in four and a very disappointing result at Coventry City has seemingly started a bit of fan pressure towards Davies, who albeit still has the club in 13th place of the Championship table at the time of writing.
If this current form continues though, Blues will quickly slip down the table, and Davies will only come under more and more scrutiny.

Instead of bemoaning Coventry’s tactics on the day, Davies needed to face the music: a red card for Robinson obviously doesn’t help but Birmingham City were behind well before he was sent off.
There are certainly some winnable games coming up for Blues, and the next few weeks could be very decisive in their season and potentially in Davies’ position at the club.
