Daniel Farke betters a Leeds United record previously set by Marcelo Bielsa with two games to spare

Leeds United’s 6-0 hammering of Stoke City saw a plethora of club and player records broken, with one record being the most impressive.

With Premier League football firmly in the crosshairs, Leeds United were on target to deliver a 6-0 hammering of Stoke City at Elland Road, in a historic day for Daniel Farke’s side.

Leeds sealed their 27th league win of the campaign thanks to four first-half goals from untouchable frontman Joel Piroe, with Junior Firpo compiling Stoke’s misery before Wilfried Gnonto notched their sixth on the hour-mark.

History was made by Piroe after he netted Leeds’ fastest ever hat-trick, finding the net three times in just 20 minutes, but arguably the most impressive record smashed during the Potters victory was one set by legendary Leeds figure Marcelo Bielsa.

Daniel Farke’s Leeds United smash club record set by Marcelo Bielsa

Five first-half goals, a debut for 16-year-old Harry Gray, younger brother of now-Spurs starlet Archie, and all but confirmed their place in the Premier League next season, cemented the afternoon as one of the most historic in Leeds’ 106-year history.

Leeds supporters were “emotional” on social media after the Stoke win, and rightly so, as Farke’s side made history on multiple fronts, but the most momentous was their new record set for most points won in a single season in the club’s history.

The previous best was 93, set by club legend Bielsa during the 2019/20 Championship campaign. However, their victory over Stoke took Leeds’ points tally this term to an astonishing 94, bettering Bielsa’s efforts with two league games to spare.

Farke’s side will be hoping to make further history in terms of the highest ever Championship point tallies by becoming only the seventh ever side to earn triple points figures.

Vincent Kompany’s Burnley finished on 101 points in the 2022/23 season and Leeds will be only a single point behind if they manage to beat both Bristol City and Plymouth Argyle in their remaining Championship fixtures.

With Burnley still fighting for the extremely valuable Championship title prize fund alongside Farke’s side, every point matters for Leeds despite all but confirming their Premier League place next season.

Leeds also remain undefeated in all 50 Championship matches in which the Whites have scored first under Farke, winning 44 of those, which perfectly encapsulates the ruthless nature shown to shatter multiple club records.

All records broken by Leeds United during 6-0 win vs Stoke City

Easter Monday will go down as one of the most historic afternoons of football in Elland Road folklore forever.

A 20-minute Piroe hat-trick, debut for another teenage gem in Gray and a new record club points tally broken with two games to go and a place in Championship history in sight if the triple figure tally can be hit.

Promotion was within touching distance for the Whites before kick-off, and after the historic 6-0 rout, the taps will be run dry as Farke’s side scorch to the second tier summit after a momentous afternoon.
