Daniel Farke declares Leeds will ‘100%’ be promoted if four game target is met

Leeds United manager Daniel Farke has had an interesting couple of years in charge of the club.

His first season saw Leeds achieve an impressive 90 points, but still miss out on promotion to the Premier League due to heartbreak in the play-off final.

They had only been in the Championship play-offs after the team’s dismal end-of-season collapse saw them win just four points from 24 available.

The failure to go up led to the departures of key players such as Crysencio Summerville, Archie Gray and Georginio Rutter, while Farke’s position was also questioned.

A slow start to this season only increased the scrutiny on the German manager, with some fans calling for his head.

However, once Leeds found their rhythm – backed by incredibly impressive home form – they established themselves as the top team in the division and favourites for promotion.

Leeds also benefit from an ‘insane’ statistic that’s seen them dominate 3pm kick-offs.

Now Daniel Farke has set a very clear target for his team to meet in order to secure promotion back into the Premier League.

Leeds United must win four home games to get into the Premier League

Speaking in a press conference before Leeds’ Championship game against Swansea City, Daniel Farke was asked if four home wins would be enough for promotion.

“Yes, because four wins would bring us to 92 points and it wouldn’t be the case we then automatically lose all four away games,” the German replied. “Definitely not. If, after the four home games, there’s also another away game to play and we then need points there, be sure Leeds United will win the points there.”

The away game Farke is referring to there is Leeds’ final match of the season, away at the division’s bottom team Plymouth Argyle, who could very easily be relegated by that point.

The Leeds manager then called on the fans to help provide the home advantage they’ve benefited from for most of the season.

“One thing I can guarantee: if our home supporters help to sing us to four home wins, then 100 per cent we will go up,” Farke declared. “There is no doubt about this. But I also don’t want to be respectless and say the home games will be the easy games and we will win them easily. No. They are really, really difficult games.”

After the club’s terrible eight game run at the end of last season, it’s clear Farke doesn’t want to risk a repeat.

Opta’s supercomputer also thinks Leeds United will successfully win promotion.

Will 92 points be enough for Leeds to get promoted?

Daniel Farke’s 92 point target for Leeds United would surpass the 90 points the club achieved last year.

Championship history is also in their favour, should The Whites achieve Farke’s target. On average, 84 points has been enough to secure automatic promotion over the last 20 years.

In the last decade, the bar has raised slightly but the average points total still stands at just 86.

Only twice in that time has the division’s second-placed team achieved more than 92 points – Ipswich Town in 2023/24 and Brighton & Hove Albion in 2016/17 with 96 and 93 points respectively.

As it stands in the Championship currently, only four teams can achieve 92 points at all – and that would require one of them, Sunderland, winning every single game for the rest of the season.

So it’s safe to say Daniel Farke isn’t being unrealistic with his target, and Leeds have it all within their own hands to get back into the Premier League.
