Sheffield Wednesday have improved their fortunes on the pitch in 2024/25, but behind the scenes, things are a complete mess.
Sheffield Wednesday ended the previous campaign just outside of the relegation places after being saved by Danny Rohl.
A year on, the Owls have climbed up to mid-table, though their brief push into the play-off places quickly fell away.

Nevertheless, they have secured their Championship status for another season – something they should be proud of, considering the complete mess owner Dejphon Chansiri continues to put them in.

Dejphon Chansiri told he ‘has to sell’ Sheffield Wednesday
It was confirmed this week by the club that Sheffield Wednesday have not paid player wages, with the club’s Supporters Trust urging their owner to fix the problem as quickly as possible.
However, that seems unlikely to happen given Chansiri’s track record since buying the club.
The Thai businessman has done nothing to help the Owls and has now received a scathing verdict from journalist Henry Winter, who has urged him to ‘sell up’.
Winter stated: “When you think of Sheffield Wednesday do you think ah yes one of the oldest football clubs in the world founding members of the Premier League, four English titles three FA Cups and one League Cup.
“You’ll surely agree that Sheffield Wednesday are an English football institution. So it is an utter disgrace that they go stumbling from mess, to setback to embarrassment under their chairman and owner, Dejphon Chansiri.
“The latest mess is the failure to pay the players for March. The club released a statement saying it’s a temporary issue, result of significant sums of money owed to the chairman’s businesses, which has impacted on the club’s immediate cash flow.
“But how can it be a temporary issue when it’s happened before Chansiri even asked fans to raise money to keep HMRC happy, £2,000,000 that was.
“The EFL ran out of patience last year and placed Wednesday under a registration embargo in November that again resulted from what Sheffield Wednesday said was a temporary issue and a consequence of significant and as yet unpaid sums of money to the chairman, which in turn has impacted on the club’s immediate cash flow.
“This really is Groundhog Day. What is particularly concerning is that clubs often have cash at this time of year because of season ticket renewals, especially at Wednesday with the early bird season ticket sales. They’re selling hospitality boxes at inviting prices for next season. More than 33,000 fans thronged Hillsborough for the Derby game a fortnight ago. Where’s that money gone?
“Chansiri has fallen out with many fans of Sheffield Wednesday. He’s fallen out with a very good manager in Danny Rohl, who could leave in the summer. The club’s crying out for a new owner; Chansiri has to sell up.”

Dejphon Chansiri has a potential buyer for Sheffield Wednesday
The carnage behind the scenes at Hillsborough is only likely to continue over the summer.
Rohl is expected to leave Sheffield Wednesday, with German club RB Leipzig the latest team credited with an interest in his services.
The only real saving grace for fans is that a buyer is waiting to negotiate with Chansiri if he does decide to sell the club.
It was revealed last week that a US-based consortium are ready to take over the Owls if their current owner is willing to come to the table.
