Derby County suffered defeat to Luton Town, and one moment stuck out as a particularly poor moment for Rams fans.
In the latest twist in the Championship relegation scrap, Pride Park was subject to a bitterly disappointing Derby County defeat vs Luton Town, with the Hatters picking up all three points.
Derby County now find themselves level on points with fellow strugglers Luton Town, who now find themselves in a rich vein of form, barring their slip-up last weekend to Blackburn Rovers.
Following the defeat, it is clear that John Eustace’s Derby were simply not clinical enough infront of goal, despite a flurry of chances in the final third, particularly in the second stanza – and there was one opportunity that Rams fans certainly believed was nothing short of a ‘sitter’ that was not converted.

Derby County fans are fuming with Jerry Yates miss in Luton Town defeat
There were several missed opportunities for Derby County in their defeat to Luton Town, including Marcus Harness being unable to send the ball past Thomas Kaminski from three yards out in the latter stages of the clash, but one that certainly should have been converted was Jerry Yates’ opportunity when in on goal.
With just Kaminski to beat, having fended off the defenders, Yates had to bury it in either corner to bring Derby County back level, which could have led to the Rams turning the game around. However, the striker seemingly just placed a shot straight into the Luton Town shot-stopper, who didn’t need to move to maintain his clean sheet on this occasion.
When reacting to the miss on X, one Derby fan suggested that it was a ‘terrible’ opportunity to miss in a situation that was also deemed as a ‘shocker’ by another.
Another supporter suggested that it was ‘another Yates sitter [to add] to the long list’, whilst another said that ‘we’d be comfortably safe if Yates scored every easy sitter he’s missed this season’.
One placed further disbelief on the miss that was ‘absolutely shocking’.

Missed opportunities vs Luton Town could come back to haunt John Eustace
The home defeat for the Rams truly felt like a pivota moment in the season, and one that could certainly change the landscape for the remainder of the 2024/25 Championship campaign.
Now hovering about the dropzone on goal difference, there will need to be a monumental improvement in the final third next time against West Brom, and certainly in the clash with fellow strugglers Hull City.
Ultimately, not being able to notch a single goal, despite the chances against Luton, certainly does not set a good precedent for the Rams, and ultimately, much of this goes down to the personnel that were at fault for the misses.
