Derby County still ‘desperately need’ one thing as fans welcome Max Johnston to Pride Park

Derby County have announced their 12th signing of the summer, after two new arrivals made their way to the East Midlands on Wednesday.

Lewis Travis has joined the Rams from Blackburn Rovers after a whole summer of interest, while Max Johnston has now made his way to Pride Park following several rejected bids for the right-back over the course of August.

Slowly but surely, John Eustace is shaping his team exactly how he wants it to be. With players now starting to return from injury, there is no doubt that we will start to see solid improvements from Derby in the coming weeks and months.

However, there is still time left in the transfer window and supporters of the Rams do have one concern that needs addressing.

Derby County supporters are concerned about the lack of wide options despite Max Johnston’s arrival

A two-time Austrian Bundesliga winner with Sturm Graz, Johnston is a very good signing for Derby on paper and at just 21, he has the potential to develop into an outstanding full-back in the years to come.

Despite this, and despite the excitement around signing someone with experience in all three of UEFA’s European club competitions, Rams fans want to see Eustace delve into the transfer market once again.

While another put: “Desperately need two quality wingers who have goals in them COYR.”

As a third wrote: “Now, two wingers and we’re sorted.”

“Two wingers and we’re winning the lot,” a fifth Derby fan put.

Meanwhile, one Blackburn Rovers supporter jokingly said: “I honestly don’t remember him at Blackburn Rovers.”

The Rams have had an excellent summer transfer window

With 12 new faces at Pride Park, there has been a lot of change this summer, but it has been necessary change.

After avoiding relegation on the final day of last season, Derby had to add more firepower up front, and they have done exactly that with Carlton Morris and the £5.8m Patrick Agyemang.

Travis adds experience and depth to the midfield, while the likes of Bobby Clark and David Ozoh offer Eustace young options in the middle of the park.

Johnston is the missing part of the puzzle in defence for Derby and if they can end the window by bringing in two wingers, then Eustace will have got everything he wished for and more from this summer.
