EFL experts offer Oxford United vs Coventry City score prediction as ‘fine margins’ impact Frank Lampard’s ‘hot’ streak

Frank Lampard’s unstoppable Coventry City side come up against Oxford United this weekend, and judging by their score predictions, Championship experts think we’ll see a close contest.

The last week in the Championship was a really productive one for Coventry City, with the Sky Blues bagging a 2-1 win over Preston North End to keep up their charge towards the play-off places.

That was also Coventry’s first win over Preston since 2007, with fans delighted that Frank Lampard has broken the so-called curse after all this time.

Oxford United, meanwhile, fell to another defeat, with West Brom winning 2-0 at the Hawthorns on Saturday afternoon. Gary Rowett’s side are now without a goal in four games, which should make the score predictions for their next game simple enough.

Frank Lampard will keep Coventry City marching on vs Oxford United

Discussing the upcoming fixture on the Championship Check-In podcast, host Benjamin Bloom found it difficult to see anything other than a Coventry win this weekend.

Bloom said: “Three weeks ago I’d be calling a home win. But, the hot hand is not with Oxford now, they’ve passed that torch to Coventry.

“I’ve got to back a Coventry win in this one. You’ve flagged up, they’ve had a few clean sheet wins and we know Gary Rowett keeps his games to fine margins, so I’m going to back Coventry to win 1-0.”

Parkin agreed, adding: “That’s what I had. They’ve scored one goal in six games going into this one Oxford. You have to back Coventry. On current form, I will go for the 2-1 away win.”

That hot streak for Frank Lampard continues, then, with what would be an eighth win in nine games in the Championship. It could even be enough to lift the Sky Blues into the top six by the end of the weekend depending on results elsewhere.

Are Oxford United in trouble this season?

If Oxford United do lose this game against Coventry as expected, they will most certainly be in a little trouble, and could easily become embroiled in quite the relegation dogfight by the end of the season.

Going into the weekend, the O’s are four places and eight points clear of Plymouth Argyle in 22nd place, but as we know, that gap can quickly be closed.

They’ve got some tough games coming up against the likes of Norwich City, Sheffield United, Leeds United, and Sunderland. But, Rowett’s men also still have to play teams around them, like Swansea City, Hull, and Cardiff.

One thing is certain: the results in those three games will have a far bigger impact on Oxford’s final position than the results the O’s pick up against the likes of Coventry.
