Plymouth Argyle are looking for a new manager ahead of the 2025/26 campaign, and fans believe they’ve spotted evidence that Jack Wilshere will take on the job.
After suffering relegation from the Championship, hopes were high among Plymouth fans and indeed among neutrals, too, that Argyle could return at the first time of asking.
In our League One 2025/26 predictions, we pegged Plymouth as potential title winners in the third tier. But, the South Coast club suffered a big blow this weekend with the departure of Miron Muslic.
Fans were fuming with Muslic, as were the club, it seems, for the nature of his exit. And now, they’re questioning whether Jack Wilshere is the man to save them.

What Plymouth Argyle fans are saying about Jack Wilshere
Eagle-eyed Plymouth fans spotted this weekend that Wilshere was following an account on Instagram called Plymouth Argyle News, which led them to believe the young coach could be in line for the top job at Home Park.
Wilshere left Norwich recently in the hopes of finding a managerial role, and there are Argyle fans who believe this would be a good fit for all parties.
One said: “Those saying Jack Wilshere is a gamble need to realise he’s got full coaching badges, he’s worked with players at all ages in his roles at both Arsenal and Norwich and he’s got all the qualities we sought out when first looking for a manager in League One all those years ago. He’s no gamble.”
Another added: “Would take him over some of the names mentioned. Very highly-rated young coach, good contacts, would suit our style of play perfectly. Not my first choice but could easily work.”
A third replied: “Obviously there are safer options but wouldn’t hate this. He’s worked his way up in terms of coaching, would imagine has some great connections and with how he was as a player and seeing how his academy side when he was at Arsenal played wouldn’t be a bad style of football either.”
However, there are plenty of others who don’t think Wilshere would be the right replacement for Muslic at Plymouth.
One wrote: “Hallett only yesterday mentioned learning from previous mistakes. If we announced this in the same week as an ugly kit launch, it’d finish me off before we’d kicked a ball.”
Another said: “It would be a disaster, Argyle need someone ideally with experience of getting a team promoted at this juncture. It would be a Foster or Rooney appointment all over again.”
One simply said, “Not the time to gamble,” but another added the caveat, “Appointing Jack would be good as long as they bring someone experienced in to assist him so we don’t end up having the same issues we had with Rooney.”

Plymouth Argyle job could be perfect for Jack Wilshere
For Wilshere, this Plymouth job would be ideal. It’s a chance for him to develop his skills in a lower league, at a club where he would receive fairly substantial backing and have a great chance to get promoted.
Bagging the League One job would work well for Wilshere, and if he could be successful there it would look great on his CV.
But, that doesn’t necessarily mean it would be the right fit for Plymouth. The club will be desperate to go back up to the Championship as soon as possible, and there’s no denying that an untested manager like Wilshere is a risk.
After the debacle surrounding Muslic’s exit this weekend, it’s clear the board need to get the next appointment absolutely spot on. Whether they are willing to gamble on Wilshere or not remains to be seen, but it would be a bold move.
