Forget Danny Rohl’s return, Sheffield Wednesday could face absolute disaster in the next 24 hours

With less than a month to go until the 2025/26 Championship campaign gets underway, Sheffield Wednesday are still in disarray.

Dejphon Chansiri has racked up £4m of footballing debts, and the Owls owe money to Hull City among others as the team start to prepare for the new season.

It’s been a summer of uncertainty for supporters and while Danny Rohl will take training for the first time on Monday, the situation off the pitch continues to be a huge distraction for everyone at the club.

Sheffield Wednesday have a very light pre-season schedule currently, but with the South Yorkshire outfit under a three-window transfer ban there is another more pressing issue that could cause major problems in the next 24 hours.

Unpaid Sheffield Wednesday players may be able to depart from Tuesday

Some Owls players have not been paid since the end of April, and this is the reason for the club’s current transfer embargo.

Sheffield Wednesday are trying to raise funds by selling players, with Djeidi Gassama set to join Rangers while Anthony Musaba is moving to Turkish side Samsunspor.

However, according to Rob Staton, if unpaid stars are not handed their wage by the end of play on Monday (14 July), then from tomorrow they can go through the process of handing their notices in so that they can leave the club.

The Owls need a resolution to this situation immediately

While there is plenty to be worried about at Hillsborough, a takeover could happen sooner rather than later, with interest in the Owls growing.

A mystery bidder for Sheffield Wednesday has been named by The Sun as Tilman Fertitta, and the report states that he may send some money to help out in the short-term.

There will be huge debate about Rohl’s future, especially after he has spent the summer looking for work elsewhere.

Nevertheless, the first thing that must be sorted is the payment of players to stop them from leaving the club before the team step onto a pitch once again.
