A former Middlesbrough player is closing in on a transfer, and he could end up linking back up with Hayden Hackney.

It’s no secret that plenty of clubs have been keeping an eye on Hayden Hackney over the last year.

EFL Analysis revealed earlier in 2025 amid links to Crystal Palace that Hackney was expected to leave Middlesbrough this summer if the club failed to make the play-offs, which they did.

A further update was then shared, with the midfielder named as the most likely star to leave Middlesbrough this summer due to him being an academy player, and all money from a potential sale would be pure profit as a result.

Then, we confirmed that Hackney was changing agents amid interest from a plethora of sides around Europe.

This week, meanwhile, it was reported that Everton want the Middlesbrough player, and if that move is pulled off, it could see him reunite with one of his former teammates.

While Boro struggled for large parts of 2024/25, a couple of players did impress.

One of those was January loan signing Mark Travers, who became their number one in the second half of the season.

Middlesbrough fans wanted Travers to be their first signing of the summer transfer window.

However, the goalkeeper is now expected to move elsewhere after talk of a Boro return and links to Birmingham City, who have since signed another keeper.

Journalist Pete O’Rourke has reported on X/Twitter that ‘Everton and Bournemouth have agreed a deal for goalkeeper Mark Travers’.

Hayden Hackney price-tag

As well as Everton, the likes of Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United, and Bayer Leverkusen have also shown some interest in the Boro ace.

In terms of a potential price tag, a transfer fee of around £20m-£25m for Hackney has been mooted.

Middlesbrough sold Emmanuel Latte Lath for £22.5m in the latest winter transfer window.
