Former Sheffield Wednesday star tips key duo to make move to Championship rivals

A former Sheffield Wednesday attacker believes that two of the club’s star players would be a perfect fit for one of their Championship rivals.

Wednesday have been hit with a three-window fee restriction, meaning they can only negotiate loans and transfers that require no fee.

There could be light at the end of the tunnel though as Adam Shaw could be in line to replace Owls owner Dejphon Chansiri after a constructive round of talks.

Things aren’t better on the pitch, however, with Danny Rohl looking to leave Hillsborough and several players out of contract, with two being told that they would suit one league rival.

Barry Bannan and Stuart Armstrong tipped to join Wrexham

Barry Bannan is Mr Sheffield Wednesday and a popular figure among supporters

Bannan and Stuart Armstrong are two of the more senior figures at the club but are both set to leave with their contracts up at the end of the month and money tight.

There are hopes that Bannan can commit to a new deal but according to former Owls forward Kevin Gallacher, a move to Wrexham may suit them instead.

He told the Sunday Post: “I have seen both men in action in the Championship and have no doubt they could do a job for Wrexham, Bannan especially as he is not only a footballer with fantastic technical ability but also an extremely hard worker.

“As we have seen for Scotland, Celtic and Dundee United on numerous occasions, Armstrong is an attacking player with a lot of quality. Again, he has a lot of experience in the game and would look an excellent signing for Wrexham to make.”

Sheffield Wednesday and Wrexham could be competing at different ends of the table

Wrexham will be competing in the Championship for the first time in 43 years and despite their long absence from the second tier, the Red Dragons are being tipped by many to enjoy another successful season.

Meanwhile, the Owls are predicted to struggle in the second tier, and losing Bannan to someone the club probably consider as a rival is only going to increase the chance of them falling further behind in the table.

It’s predicted to be another excellent Championship season but right now, it feels that there’s only one team that’s ready for it.
