Not every transfer works out, be that for the club or player, and one former Southampton player has warned about the need to carefully think about the move before agreeing to it.
Last season was not a great campaign for the Saints, as they narrowly avoided becoming the worst team the Premier League ever had, based on points accumulated.
However, while it was disappointing for all involved with that team, for one player who joined the club in January, he found it difficult to adapt at the club.
Now he has moved on from the Saints and is playing his football elsewhere, but he has opened up on his time at Southampton and his regrets with the deal.

Albert Gronbaek opens up on his move to Southampton
Albert Grønbæk has again spoken to the Danish media about his difficult time at Southampton last season.
He is currently playing for Genoa; however, speaking to Danish newspaper Ekstra Bladet, Grønbæk has made it clear what he learned from his time at Southampton despite it being tough.

He said: “It’s about being much more careful when choosing a club. This summer, I was very careful, thorough and very sure that the next step should be a place where I could get stability.
“My time at Southampton taught me the hard way how important it is to be careful when it comes to choosing a club.”
Albert Gronbaek’s time at Southampton
The Danish midfielder did not join Southampton on a permanent deal this summer after his short loan spell at the Saints and is now playing his football in Italy with Genoa on loan from Rennes.
He made it clear he learnt from his move to Southampton to do more due diligence ahead of this move after his spell at the Saints, and will be hopeful his time in Italy is more successful.
The 24-year-old said his decision to join Genoa this summer was more thought out compared to when he agreed to sign for Southampton in January.
Grønbæk only made four appearances for Southampton last season after joining on loan from Rennes, making his debut for the club on 1 February 2025 in a 2–1 away victory against Ipswich Town, one of their two wins that campaign.
