Coventry City missed the chance to jump into fifth place in the Championship table last night, and Frank Lampard has outlined exactly where his team came up short.
A brilliant run of form since the turn of the year has seen Coventry become genuine play-off contenders under Frank Lampard.
Nine wins from ten games back in February and March had the Sky Blues looking hot favourites to go all the way, but they’ve hit a more inconsistent patch of late.
Still, Coventry went into the game against Hull City on Monday night knowing that a win would move them up the table and put significant distance between them and the chasing pack.
However, as we learned from the Coventry vs Hull game, things rarely go to plan, and the Tigers battled well to grab a vital point for themselves.

What Frank Lampard had to say about Coventry City’s 1-1 draw vs Hull
Coventry took the lead early in the second half, but were pegged back late on with a scrappy Hull City goal. Discussing that moment (via the club’s website) after the game, Lampard was forthcoming about how his team could and should have kept the ball out of the net.
He said: “We could have done better with the first part of the action when we were a bit sloppy letting them play out and it’s a change of play.
“The lad, he’s shot, but there’s no conviction and he’s not moved it to shift and really strike it, it’s one of those where we’re a bit disappointed, but if you analyse it you probably go it’s just one of those goals, like they might feel about ours.
“Other than a few moments of slack play, we were the team creating the chances and building good pressure and looked really dangerous through the game.”

But, Lampard insisted his Sky Blues deserved to win the match overall, and he had plenty of praise for his players, while also giving credit to Hull’s efforts.
He added: “I thought we played well for big parts of the game, on and off the ball.
“The defensive side of our game in the first half was really good, they created one chance, but that was a foul on Ben Sheaf, other than that, no danger and for big parts of the second half.
“They’re a dangerous team here and have good players at the top end of the pitch and we negated a lot, combined really well and we created a lot of chances, at 1-0 particularly to go 2-0 up and I think that is pretty much game done if we get that.
“I’m really happy with the players and disappointed for them and for us, that we don’t get three points, but it’s football and at this stage of the season you have to take your point and accept it, but I thought we deserved more.”

Injuries could become a problem for Coventry now
The draw leaves Coventry three points clear of West Brom, but with an inferior goal difference that could come back to bite them in the Championship play-offs run-in.
However, in that department, Coventry may well be struggling to compete, as a number of their most important and most creative players are fighting injuries, including the ‘magic’ Victor Torp, whose season is now over.
Lampard said: “Victor Torp has done his ankle ligaments and will miss the rest of the season now.
“Ephron [Mason-Clark] has a continuation of his toe injury which we don’t really know how long he’s going to be out for at the minute.
“Bobby Thomas has a low-level calf problem, and we will just have to analyse it, but I can’t give time frames.”

With just four games to go, Coventry will need other players to step up and provide goals to get the Sky Blues over the line. They’re still in a strong position, but that upcoming fixture against West Brom on Friday will be absolutely decisive now.
