When Frank Lampard takes his Coventry City team to the King Power Stadium this weekend, he could leave a bona fide Sky Blues hero.

We are soon approaching the 12-month anniversary of Frank Lampard signing on the dotted line to become the Coventry City manager. What a year it’s been!

Lampard and the Sky Blues went on a tremendous, record-breaking run in the second half of last season to land a play-off spot. While they couldn’t go all the way, signs of Coventry’s progress are clear for all to see.

Next up is a trip to Midlands rivals Leicester City. For Lampard, there’s an opportunity to record another club-first if he comes away as the victor on Saturday lunchtime.

Leicester City unbeaten at King Power Stadium vs Coventry City

The rivalry between these two Championship sides may be fierce, but there is only one winner in the recent history of this fixture.

Turns out, Leicester City have actually never lost to Coventry at the King Power Stadium. That’s a nine-game unbeaten run at home for the Foxes, including seven wins and two draws.

The most recent meeting at this ground came just over two years ago, in the Championship. Leicester City triumphed 2-1 that day, with a Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall double getting the job done.

Prior to that, you have to go all the way back to 2012 for another clash between the Foxes and the Sky Blues. Of course, the period in between was largely dominated by Leicester winning their miraculous Premier League title.

Given their electric form this season, though, Coventry City will surely fancy their chances of making history and storming the Leicester City fortress.

Frank Lampard has a brilliant record against Leicester City

One thing’s for sure, Frank Lampard will certainly be licking his lips at the prospect of taking on Leicester. He’s had a pretty good time of it when facing the Foxes in the past as a player.

15 times he’s played against Leicester, and lost just twice. Lampard also bagged six goals and two assists during that time, turning out for West Ham, Chelsea, and Man City.

Lampard will be keen to forget about the own goal he scored for Leicester back in 1998. That said, he did manage to bag one for West Ham and secure a 3-2 win that day, so it wasn’t a total disaster.

Can he translate that impressive record as a player into managerial success? It’ll be a close game, for sure, but one that should be highly entertaining for the neutral.

This is the first of a five-game run that could be pivotal to Coventry’s season. Win at the King Power and the momentum gained will be huge going into a home clash with Birmingham City.
