‘How and why’, ‘rigged’, Championship fans in agreement after Scott Parker named manager of the season

Burnley manager Scott Parker had another cause for celebration after being named the Championship manager of the season.

Fresh off the back of a 5-0 win at Queens Park Rangers at the weekend, Parker was handed the award after a stellar season in which he took Burnley back to the Premier League at the first attempt.

This is Parker’s third promotion from the Championship in a year where the Clarets have broken all kinds of records, including an outrageous numbers defensively, keeping over 30 clean sheets.

They could still win the league, although Leeds United currently have a game in hand on them and would return to the top of the table if they win, but there seems to be a consensus that there were better options than Parker to win the award.

Championship fans react to Scott Parker award win

Although Burnley had an excellent season, their budget in comparison to other teams always meant that they were favourites for the promotion spots.

Parachute payments have aided the top flight teams who come down and fans of other clubs feel the likes of Liam Manning at Bristol City or John Mousinho at Portsmouth should’ve been awarded instead.

@MarkAquili1968, a Leeds fan, said: “How and why? Farke had Leeds playing the best football and scoring the most goals. Not boring football that he has Burnley playing.”

@cjp_88 added: “Manning should have got it for what he’s done this year and with what happened in his personal life too!”

@pompey32839 replied: “Should be John Mousinho”.

@Banno____ also chimed in, adding: “Absolutely rigged. Finishing 2nd, drawing 16 games and playing the worst brand of football i’ve ever seen.”

“John Eustace deserves this award if it was selected by actual human beings,” stated @Iuke1875.

Scott Parker ‘proud’ of Burnley side after promotion back to Premier League

It’s easy to dismiss Burnley because of being one of the favourites to go up, but they truly have had a remarkable season.

Their football may not always be pleasing on the eye at times, but to only conceded 15 times and keep 30 plus clean sheets is no mean feat.

Points win prizes at the end of the day and Parker admitted he was ‘proud’ of his side and was hoping to add some more records on the final day of the season.

He told BBC Sport: This [promotion] is right up there because of the journey we’ve been on. This is a team that was practically put together in the last week of the transfer window and to come together like they have makes me immensely proud of them.”
