How Birmingham City’s Tom Brady and co. feel about Chris Davies after Championship start

Birmingham City have suffered three defeats in a row under Chris Davies for the first time, and EFL Analysis can exclusively reveal how the Blues board feel about their manager.

Davies arrived from Tottenham Hotspur last summer and led Birmingham City to an immediate Championship return, winning promotion from League One with a record-breaking 111 points.

When put into context, Birmingham’s return of two wins, one draw and two losses isn’t bad for a club that has just come up from the third tier with a manager who has never managed in this league. Davies is tied down to a contract until 2028 and has plenty of credit in the bank from last year.

However, after three consecutive losses against Leicester City and Stoke City and a 1-0 defeat to Port Vale in the Carabao Cup in between, Davies’ team selections are beginning to be questioned by some Blues fans. But how are the board viewing their manager at this moment in time?

Birmingham City not worried by Leicester City and Stoke City defeats as possible Chris Davies timeline revealed

After the disaster appointment of Wayne Rooney, co-owner and NFL legend Tom Brady, Tom Wagner and Birmingham’s other investors needed to get the next managerial appointment spot on. Davies appears have been a masterstroke – and EFL Analysis’ chief football correspondent Graeme Bailey says there’s been no major concern from those above so far.

He said: “They’re not overly worried about the start to the season. They like him, like what he does. Obviously they’re a very ambitious ownership group, very ambitious club and obviously if it gets to a certain point then it’ll be assessed, but no there are no thoughts of replacing him at this moment in time.

“Obviously very few managers are 100% safe in football. If they’re way off the play-off spots come December, I’m sure they’ll assess it, but he knows he’s joined a huge ambitious club who want to be in the Premier League. And so, if you’re way off that, he knows there’ll be consequences to that.

“Any ideas of replacing him have not been discussed really. The Birmingham job would be a very appealing one if it came up. But Davies was a very ambitious and very astute appointment. And it was the decision of the owners to go down that route, too. If it had been a decision they inherited maybe they’d be considering it more and may have moved on quicker, but they wanted this.”

“There’s no desire to move on from Davies. It’s very early days yet. And we’ll see. But there’s no talk in-house and they’re not even looking at that situation just yet. Come Christmas time, let’s look at it again, I think that will be the time for them to think about it.”

What is Chris Davies’ record as Birmingham City manager?

Birmingham host Swansea City in the Championship this Saturday and will be looking to record their second home league win of the campaign.

Davies made St Andrew’s a fortress last season as they won the League One title, and this will be vital again if he wants to push the Blues towards the idea of promotion.

In August, he topped the charts for the most points per game of any manager at their current club across the top four tiers (2.40).

That beat Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola’s 2.30 and Liverpool boss Arne Slot’s 2.23. Davies has plenty of time to get himself back amongst the big guns.
