Jonjo Shelvey has been on trial at Hull City, and a decision has now been made by Acun Ilicali on the former England international.
Hull City’s financial situation has led to them being slapped with a transfer fee ban, with Acun Ilicali now having to focus on bringing free players to the club.
Whilst Ilicali is optimistic that a solution can be found, to the point where he has halted all of Hull City’s transfer business, there is still the realisation that the Tigers’ appeal may not be successful. As a result, Ilicali will need to scour the free agent and loan market this summer.
Hull City have had Jonjo Shelvey training with the club after his contract expired at Burnley. There is an interest from the club to attain the services of the former Liverpool and Newcastle United midfielder, and now the club have made a decision that points towards them looking to sign Shelvey on a permanent deal.

Hull City call up Jonjo Shelvey to join in Turkish pre-season trip
This summer, Acun Ilicali has continued with the annual trip to Turkey for pre-season, where he has paid for a selection of Hull City supporters to join him in his home country.
As well as the first-team squad, it has been revealed, via Hull Live, that Jonjo Shelvey will continue his trial at the club after being offered a chance to join the squad in Turkey as pre-season preparations continue.
It would be expected that Hull City’s decision to keep Shelvey on trial as they head to their seven-day training camp in Riva is down to the optimism over striking a permanent deal to sign the free agent.

Jonjo Shelvey would be a brilliant addition in Hull’s situation
Providing that Hull are unable to spend this summer, if they cannot fully remove that restriction, then the free agent market needs to be utilised by the club.
The Hull City board have a list of players to target if they continue under such restrictions, and Jonjo Shelvey will surely be top of that.
Considering that Hull City’s pool of players they could obtain will be minimal, they could do a lot worse than bringing in an experienced former England midfielder who has shone previously in the Premier League and Championship.
At the age of 33, Shelvey still has plenty more to offer, and would be a brilliant option for Sergej Jakirovic to opt for in the centre of the park.
