Hull City owner Acun Ilicali could have made a decision that will leave the club significantly behind in the summer transfer window.
Hull City have been placed under a restriction for three windows, which takes away their ability to sign players, permanently or on loan for a fee.
Whilst Hull City have acknowledged the restrictions they will now face, Acun Ilicali is confident that the severity of the punishment will be lowered.
As a fight looks set to take place, with Hull City’s Turkish owner leading the troops into battle as he hopes to resolve the issue, it has become clear that one priority will be brushed aside in the meantime, something that could significantly hamper the Tigers this summer.

Hull City are set to put transfer business on ice
With the priority for Hull City and Acun Ilicali at this moment being the sanctions of their fee restrictions, Hull Live have reported that the club ‘won’t have any further additions to his squad for the start of the pre-season camp in Turkey and reinforcements are not expected at this moment for the opening two friendly matches of the summer’.
This comes as a result of the decision to ‘place all transfer business firmly on hold’, which means that deals for top forward targets Oli McBurnie and Matija Frigan will not be completed soon, although there will be hopes that the club can still tie down both players’ futures.
This appears to have shown a backtrack on Ilicali’s previous comments that bringing in a striker has to be the priority for the club this summer, and whilst there needs to be work done to resolve the ongoing financial situation, it wouldn’t be expected that the need to bring in a forward would be put to the side.

Acun Ilicali’s decision could give Championship rivals the chance to swoop for Oli McBurnie
After recording the lowest tally of goals for the 2024/25 season, bringing in a striker or two is paramount for Hull City, especially after losing João Pedro this summer.
As a result, it made sense that Hull City had identified Oli McBurnie as a top target this summer, but Acun Ilicali’s latest decision could hand the chance to Championship rivals to sign the former Swansea City and Sheffield United man.
Such a player being available on a free, especially in Hull City’s situation, should not be passed up. There is still confidence in the Tigers camp that they can still pursue a deal for the Scotsman, but surely he will not want to be kept waiting.
