Ian Holloway doesn’t see why Swindon Town striker can’t be the next Ian Wright

Swindon Town have begun their League Two campaign this season after travelling to play Walsall, who are among the early-season favourites for promotion.

There is an optimism around the club for the 2025/26 League Two season under Ian Holloway after their finish to the last campaign, with MK Dons expected to walk the division.

Swindon Town will hope they can start to work their way back up the divisions to the Premier League, a division they have not been in since 1994.

The Wiltshire club have done some business ahead of the campaign to add to their squad full of quality, particularly adding to Irish starlet Gavin Kilkenny, who had been part of the Bournemouth set up before joining last season.

Ian Holloway seems confident one of his newest additions to his Swindon squad could have a significant impact.

Ian Holloway believes Jake Tabor can make an impact at Swindon Town

Swindon Town signed Jake Tabor from the non-league after he scored 127 goals in 91 appearances over the past two seasons for Combined Counties League Premier Division North side Amersham Town.

Ian Holloway has now backed him to be able to make the step up and believes he could follow in the footsteps of Ian Wright.

The Swindon manager said: “Whether they have scored at this level or not yet it’s irrelevant. Can you score?

“And if you can score and does that mean if you have not played at this level before, does that mean you aren’t going to be good enough to score? It is how you score; it is what the team produces and what you need at the end of it.

“Ian Wright came in, and he started scoring goals when he was 26, and then he ended as Arsenal’s top goal scorer.

“For me, I get entertained by watching people score goals and do things I couldn’t do cause I wasn’t good enough to do it, so give me a centre forward all day long.”

Tabor on his first professional contract

Jake Tabor has signed his first professional contract with Swindon at the age of 22, after playing for a number of years outside the EFL.

However, he has proven he knows where the net is, and Ian Holloway is ready to put his faith in him this season at Swindon.

Tabor is relishing the challenge, as he said: “It’s absolutely amazing to sign my first deal, something I never thought would happen, especially at 22 years old. It’s a dream come true.

“To have Ian Holloway as the manager, an ex-Premier League manager, it’s special.

“I’ve worked hard at Amersham, and now it’s time to prove myself in League Two. I’m ready for the challenge. Amersham was a really great opportunity to play men’s football week in, week out.

“It’s now time to prove myself at this next level.”
