Frank Lampard has been the manager of Coventry City since November after Doug King replaced Mark Robins with the England legend, but it could have been Luton Town’s Matt Bloomfield instead.
The Luton boss replaced Rob Edwards, with Matt Bloomfield arriving from Wycombe Wanderers back in January. Having impressed at Wycombe during the first half of the campaign, he was of interest to numerous clubs.
Cov face the Hatters this Saturday in a huge game for both sides, which sees two different men in the dugout for both since their last clash. Edwards faced Mark Robins in a 3-2 defeat — which was their first meeting since the play-off final at Wembley.
Lampard has broken records this season and his Coventry side have the opportunity to break another record by guiding his side to the league double over Luton this weekend. Getting multiple of their best attacking players could be key if they can match them on a physical level.

Luton Town boss Matt Bloomfield was linked with Coventry City role
The Hatters enjoyed huge consecutive victories over the recent Championship weekend and survival is now in sight and a win at lunchtime tomorrow could be what keeps them in the division to avoid back-to-back relegations.
It could come against a club Bloomfield has previously been linked to, to make it all the more fitting. It makes plenty of sense that he was consistently linked with a role higher up the football pyramid, and despite having strong links to Wycombe, it shouldn’t be held against him that he took the opportunity.
It could have been Cov, after Robins’ departure in November, two months prior to joining Luton. The then Wycombe boss said: “I’ve not heard anything from my club.
“As far as I am concerned, it is just speculation. It is lovely to be linked with jobs higher up the food chain as it shows that the job you are doing is the right one.”
“I haven’t had any time to sit and think, and as far as I am concerned, there is nothing to think about. My only focus is this football club.
“This club means a lot to me, the fans mean a lot to me, and the players have my sole focus.”
EFL pundit Sam Parkin is backing Luton to beat Coventry and prevent a league double for their visitors to Kenilworth Road. If it keeps them up, Bloomfield will have shown Coventry who is boss in the process.

The magnitude of Luton Town vs Coventry City is similar to Wembley 2023
The penultimate weekend of the Championship season is sure to have permutations ended or others opened heading into the final day, but both these sides know it is must-win based on what is going on around them.

A win for either could be their most important of the campaign, but defeat could cast their end of season into peril. Luton have five wins and three draws in their last ten, which should instill some confidence in themselves and some fear in Coventry ahead of the game.
The comfortable 3-1 over Bristol City recently is the blueprint to follow, but Frank Lampard, Jack Rudoni, Haji Wright, and co. will have plenty to say against a team many faced in the play-off final in 2023. Avenging that may see them through to another trip to Wembley two years on.
