Portsmouth have one main target this summer transfer window, and fans will be itching to see him back at Fratton Park for 2025/26.
John Swift is unlikely to join Pompey after talks broke down between the club and the midfielder, but supporters will still be hopeful that their club can have a very busy couple of months as they prepare for the new Championship campaign.
Portsmouth have also shown an interest in Jamal Lowe yet there is one player who John Mousinho would love to have back in his hands after an excellent loan spell last season.
However, there is a new twist in the saga that will have the Blues casting doubts over their chances over securing a permanent deal for the defender.

Rob Atkinson signs new Bristol City contract after Portsmouth interest
Rob Atkinson was excellent for Pompey last season after joining in the January transfer window. He played 14 times in the Championship on the south coast as his former club staved off the threat of relegation.

Sporting director Richard Hughes explained to BBC Radio Solent previously that Portsmouth were open to starting talks with Bristol City about securing a permanent deal for the centre-back, but those plans are now in doubt.
Atkinson has put pen to paper on a new three-year deal at Ashton Gate, extending his stay in the south-west until 2028. The 26-year-old is extremely pleased to have earned a new contract, and said (via: bcfc.co.uk): “I’m really happy to be home and to get the deal done.
“I’m excited, I’ve seen a few people today and the excitement for next season is starting to dawn on me.”
John Mousinho’s Rob Atkinson dream might be over
With Atkinson signing a long-term deal with Bristol City, it seems very likely that Gerhard Struber, the new Robins boss, has plans to use him in the starting XI next season.
After Sheffield United beat City 6-0 in the play-offs, a little bit more defensive quality is needed to help the team take that next step in 2025/26.
| Appearances (starts) | 14 (13) |
| Minutes played | 1101 |
| Goals (assists) | 2 (1) |
| Pass accuracy | 76.8% |
| Tackle success | 42.9% |
| Duel success | 75.2% |
| Aerial duel success | 74.4% |
Atkinson can provide that after a terrific showing while playing for Portsmouth, and his aerial threat is also a huge bonus.
Maintaining fitness is the main goal for the 26-year-old, but this new contract is surely a sign that his involvement at Ashton Gate is likely to increase significantly – much to the disappointment of Pompey.
