West Ham United have signed Leicester City goalkeeper Mads Hermansen on the eve of the Foxes’ opener against Sheffield Wednesday.

Leicester City begin their 2025/26 Championship campaign this weekend with the visit of Sheffield Wednesday on Sunday afternoon.

Given the Owls’ financial turmoil under owner Dejphon Chansiri, the Sheffield Wednesday fans will protest at the King Power Stadium by taking to their seats after kick-off at 4:30pm.

Ahead of the game, West Ham announced the signing of Leicester goalkeeper Mads Hermansen for an “£18m package” deal.

The Foxes supporters were resigned to the Dane departing this summer, but one element of the move has caused uproar among the fans on social media.

Leicester City fans react after West Ham United sign Mads Hermansen

EFL Analysis exclusively revealed earlier in the window that Leicester were braced for a bid for Hermansen with West Ham naming the Dane as their ‘top choice’ between the sticks this summer.

Ahead of the Owls visit, Leicester confirmed on X that Hermansen has made his Hammers move after his impressive campaign in the top flight last term despite their relegation.

Fabrizio Romano outlined on X: “Mads Hermansen joins West Ham for £18m package fee from Leicester City”.

It is regarding the transfer fee where the anger from the Foxes faithful towards director of football John Rudkin arises.

Reacting to Hermansen’s West Ham move on X, one Leicester fan said: “We’ve been robbed. And Rudkin again to blame! Ramsdale 30m and Mads 18m? C’mon now”.

Another Foxes fan posted: “Anything less than 25m is a disgrace.”

A third supporter said: “Really not happy with this”, as another added: “Going to have a good career for sure”.

Another remarked: “Another disasterclass from our so called director of football”.

A sixth fan added: “Well done Rudkin and Co. A good player lost because 4 years of mostly poor players. Poor players on appallingly high wages that we can’t shift”.

With the pain of losing number one goalkeeper rife, Hermansen rubbed further salt into the wounds by sharing his elation at the move.

With Sheffield Wednesday approaching, Jakub Stolarczyk will be first choice for Leicester now under Marti Cifuentes.

After the move was announced, Hermansen told West Ham’s website: “I’m happy to join West Ham United.

“I’ve heard a lot of great things about the Club. I played West Ham twice last season and playing at London Stadium was a great experience. It’s an amazing stadium with loud, passionate fans.

“It’s what you dream of as a footballer and I can’t wait to play in front of 62,500 fans as a West Ham player.

“The fans can expect me to be brave and bring good energy to help the team in the best way I can. This is a great step in my career. I have huge ambitions and I can’t wait to get started.”
