Leicester City make U-turn on potential Ruud van Nistelrooy replacement, one key factor has changed their mind

Leicester City have just a few weeks to go in the latest edition of their Premier League journey, with the full focus now on ending the season as strongly as possible under Ruud van Nistelrooy.

With Jamie Vardy leaving the Foxes this summer, there is going to be plenty of change at the King Power Stadium in the coming months with new faces needed both on the pitch and off it.

Relegation was confirmed after a 1-0 defeat to champions Liverpool at home on April 20, however after an extremely disappointing run on their own patch, it was always a matter of when, not if, the East Midlands outfit returned to the Championship following promotion 12 months ago.

Van Nistelrooy’s Leicester City future is uncertain, and those at the top of the club have a huge decision to make in the summer as to whether he keeps his job or not and a change may just be in order in the coming weeks.

Sean Dyche may take the hot seat at Leicester City ahead of next season

The Foxes have won just five of their first 35 Premier League matches, and the Manchester United legend has overseen four of those since taking charge following Steve Cooper’s sacking earlier in the season.

He has found it tough for his Leicester side to fight against the drop, and he could pay with his job, allowing Sean Dyche to step in and make his return to management after four months out of work.

As per Alan Nixon, the former Everton boss is back in line to take over at the King Power Stadium with his rich experience in the Premier League making him a proven candidate compared to Russell Martin and Liam Manning, whose Bristol City side are in the Championship play-offs.

Getting back to the top flight at the first time of asking is Leicester’s only target next season, with the division giving teams a major financial boost compared to the second tier and his ability to keep teams from the drop is also being seen as a benefit.

Nevertheless, it is not the first time that Dyche has taken an interest in the Foxes, with the report also stating that the Championship-bound team ignored calls from him earlier in the campaign.

Sean Dyche will be looking for a repeat of the 2015/16 campaign on his return to the Championship

It’s been nine years since the 53-year-old last partook in the EFL’s top division, with his Burnley side romping to the title with 93 points – losing only five matches in the process.

His ability to win promotion out of the Championship will be of huge interest to Leicester, and while his playing style is perhaps not as exciting as other potential candidates, it is effective and could give them more of a chance at survival if they do return to the Premier League.

Dyche will be itching to return to management after facing such a tough challenge at Everton and having the opportunity to get back to winning ways with the Foxes in the second tier will be extremely enticing.

Key players such as Wilfred Ndidi could be leaving Leicester this summer, and work will be needed on the squad to ensure that they have enough to compete for promotion. Despite this, many will expect to see the 2016 Premier League champions competing for the league title once again in the Championship.
