Leicester City secured a 2-0 win over Birmingham City in the Championship to put them at the top of the table, on the same points as Middlesbrough and Stoke City.
The stats had expected the Foxes to win, and they duly obliged with goals from Abdul Fatawu and captain Ricardo Pereira.
This victory extended Leicester’s fine home record against Birmingham City, with the Blues now only managing to secure wins on two occasions in their last 13 games at the King Power Stadium.
While Marti Cifuentes would have been hoping that the focus would have been on the performance of his team, the speculation around the future of Bilal El Khannouss remained front and centre of the post-match discussion, as he has been linked with a move to Leeds United.
Marti Cifuentes addresses the future of Bilal El Khannouss
The Leicester City manager once again opted to leave Bilal El Khannouss out of the matchday squad, with the last performance of the Moroccan international for the Foxes coming against Preston North End.
Marti Cifuentes was once again asked about the future of El Khannouss and whether he would be a Leicester City player past the transfer deadline on Monday by Sky Sports.
He said: “As I said, I don’t know what is going to happen. What I know is that I am happy with the victory today, and then let’s see what happens in the next three days.
“I said from the first time that we are always looking for ways to reinforce the team, and the way to do it is to look at the players that we have in the building, players from the academy. As I said, I am very satisfied with everyone.
“The target is always to have the best squad possible.”
Potential Leicester City exits
While El Khannouss has been rumoured to be leaving the club all summer, with several clubs being linked to the player, including Leeds, the speculation won’t go away.
Journalist Patrick Berger reported on social media that the Moroccan international could be on his way to Stuttgart to cover for Nick Woltemade, who departed for Newcastle United.
Another Leicester player who has been tipped for an exit is Wout Faes, who has been linked to Bundesliga club Wolfsburg.
The Belgian international did not start the game against Birmingham City, but he was involved in the victory off the bench.
