An obvious winner between Leicester City and Birmingham City this weekend in the Championship according to the stats

Birmingham City and Leicester City have both had relatively good starts to their respective Championship campaigns, as the pair aim to achieve promotion by the end of the season.

Leicester City will host the Blues this Friday night in the Championship, looking to build on their 1-0 victory over Charlton Athletic.

Meanwhile, Birmingham City will be looking to do the exact same, as they aim to build on their unbeaten start to the Championship campaign and to put their humbling defeat to Port Vale in the Carabao Cup behind them.

Birmingham may have to do it without their star striker Jay Stansfield, as he is now an injury doubt for the fixture.

While it is almost impossible to split the two sides on the quality of their squads and their respective form this season, the stats and historic results have indicated there will be only one winner on Friday night.

The stats point to a Leicester City victory over Birmingham City

Opta seem to suggest that it is an easy choice as to who will win this fixture, ignoring the start that Birmingham City have made to the campaign, as they give Leicester City a 51.2% win percentage coming into the match.

The historic results and stats would seem to agree with Opta’s prediction, as the Blues have a terrible record away from home against the Foxes.

Leicester City have won each of their last four league games against Birmingham City, while the Blues have only secured two wins in their last 12 away league fixtures against the Foxes.

The quality of possession and passing may play a key part in emerging as victors in this fixture, and Leicester can safely know that among the 103 players in the Championship this season to have attempted 100+ passes, no player holds a better pass accuracy rate than Leicester’s Harry Winks (96.3%), while teammate Boubakary Soumaré ranks second (93.4%).

Chris Davies believes it will be a big test for Birmingham City

The stats have pointed at an obvious Leicester City win, and Chris Davies has admitted in his press conference that it will be a challenge on Friday night, but one he is relishing.

As reported by the Birmingham City club website, he said: “It’s as big as they come.

“When I arrived at this club 14 months ago, the teams were as far apart as you could possibly be in some senses. One had just gone up as champions out of the Championship, and one had been relegated to League One.

“But Leicester away for any team this season will be as hard as it gets, no doubt. But it is a game that we’re looking forward to. It was an unknown coming back to the Championship; how would we do in these different games? And this is another real test away from home against a top side, so let’s see how we can get on.

“It’s a Midlands derby. You’re going there with the fans; it’ll be a Friday night game, a big challenge for us, but we go there as a club together.”
