Birmingham City have been busy in the transfer market this summer and have been linked to many big names; however, they have been shrewd in their dealings.

The Blues suffered only their third ever competitive home defeat under Chris Davies to Port Vale in the Carabao Cup, as they lost 1-0 on Tuesday night.

Birmingham have been linked to some big names, including Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Alexander Mitrovic; EFL Analysis exclusively revealed they were not interested in signing the Serbian.

The Blues had also recently been linked to a former Barcelona graduate and Xavi favourite; however, nothing has progressed since these opening links.

However, they have been linked to another new signing ahead of the deadline of the summer transfer window, as they look to add to their squad.

Birmingham City after Celtic’s Hyunjun Yang

Chris Davies has been keen to add to his attacking options at Birmingham City, with it being ever more vital now following the injury to Jay Stansfield.

Should Hyunjun Yang join Birmingham City from Celtic this summer, he would be reunited with his former teammate Kyōgo Furuhashi.

The Japanese international has made an impressive start to life in Birmingham City and has been described as a cheat code for the Championship due to his ability.

It has been reported on social media by Anthony Joseph that Birmingham City have made an approach to Celtic for the South Korean winger.

According to the report, it is believed that Celtic have given the South Korean the ‘green light’ to leave the Scottish club, with Birmingham City keen to sign him on a permanent deal.

Brendan Rodgers is not keen to lose the player

Yang had been linked to Norwich City earlier in the summer, and a deal was never reached, much to the pleasure of Brendan Rodgers; however, since then Celtic have been looking to strengthen their options on the wing.

This has seemingly now made Yang available, despite Rodgers still being a fan of the South Korean.

The Northern Irishman told the Herald: “It’s always a challenge, I think, at a club like Celtic, whenever players have maybe been for a couple of seasons and they’re not quite established.

“Because then they want to go and play more. But certainly at this stage, where we’re at within the squad, it’s not something I can even entertain. You see, he’s starting the games. And I see him as an important player for us in our squad. And once we can get the quality around him, then he’ll be a good player for us.

“It’s hard to say. At this moment in time, he’s a starting winger for us. So, we’re not in a position to be moving him on. At this moment in time, it’s not even in our thinking, really.”
