Norwich City suffered their second defeat of the week as they were comprehensively beaten by Southampton in the Carabao Cup.
The Saints emerged as 3-0 victors over the Canaries with goals from Cameron Archer, Ryan Fraser, and Kuryu Matsuki.
This elimination from the Carabao Cup added to a poor 2-1 defeat to Middlesbrough at the weekend at Carrow Road, that helped Rob Edwards break a 31-year record, meaning Liam Manning is still yet to secure a victory at home since being appointed manager.
The Norwich City manager will hope the club’s record against Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park holds up as he looks to get the Canaries back on track.
However, he has made a promise to fans following their poor result against Southampton ahead of the rest of the campaign.
Liam Manning promises Norwich City fans things will improve
Following the defeat to Southampton in the Carabao Cup, subjecting the club to their third home defeat of the season, there were small pockets of fans booing Norwich City.
While this may be surprising, as the club is only three weeks into life in the Championship under Liam Manning, the manager has been backed to deliver a play-off push this season.
Speaking after the match with Pink Un, Manning asked for patience from the fans and promised things will get better under his guidance.
He said: “We have to stick together. We can’t afford to overreact. We have to understand we have 43 league games to play. I guarantee the team will improve and progress over time.
“We had two wins last week, two defeats this week, and you have to use that to become better. How do we become more streetwise?
“A tough evening. Given the volume of changes we made, I thought we pressed well. I thought we got into some really good areas and played depth well, and then, very similar to Middlesbrough, one sloppy moment and we are 1-0 down. But also a fantastic finish from them, and that can happen with this level of opposition.
“Frustrated at half-time because we knew we had produced some good moments. But I didn’t like how we finished the game. Just the intensity going until the end needs to be better. That is maybe physical but also in terms of we have to be tougher.”

Norwich City patience
There is a hope among fans that Norwich can make a return to the Premier League, having not been in the top flight since 2022.
Norwich have struggled since returning to the Championship with two midtable finishes, and despite a play-off campaign in 2024, the Canaries did not look like achieving promotion that season.
Liam Manning is their fourth permanent manager since their relegation in 2022, and this lack of stability will not have benefited the side, as they have had to watch on as their nearest rivals, Ipswich Town, leapfrog them and become a club mentioned in the conversation for the Championship title.
