Norwich City bank bonus worth close to £1m as Jonathan Rowe saga comes to a swift end

If Norwich City still want to make any more signings before deadline day, the near £1m bonus they just received thanks to Jonathan Rowe’s latest transfer will serve them well.

The Canaries have been one of the busiest teams in the Championship this summer, with 11 new Norwich City signings and the high-profile departure of Borja Sainz.

However, one of the biggest stories connected to Norwich has come away from the club, with former starlet Jonathan Rowe making the headlines for all the wrong reasons over in France.

Rowe’s incredible bust-up with Marseille teammate Adrien Rabiot has brought about a swift end to his time in Ligue 1, with the youngster now moving on to Italy.

Norwich City benefit from Jonathan Rowe sell-on clause

Rowe (and Rabiot) were put on the transfer list at Marseille after their falling out, and less than a week later it’s the young English winger who has found a new club.

Speculation suggested Rowe would join Bologna in Serie A, and it’s now been announced that the move has gone through.

According to the Pink’Un, Norwich can now expect around £900,000 to come their way thanks to a sell-on clause included in the original deal to take Rowe to Marseille.

Just under a month ago, there was talk of Rowe going to Roma. At the time, it was thought Norwich could bag up to £4.25m as part of the deal, but it seems the 25% sell-on clause has been reduced, quite possibly due to the lack of time Rowe spent at Marseille.

An official fee for the move to Bologna has not been revealed yet, but it’s expected to be just under £17m.

What’s left for Norwich City to do in the transfer market?

So far this summer, Liam Manning has transformed his defensive line with three new goalkeepers, two new central defenders, and the experienced Jeffrey Schlupp.

In the middle of the park, the Canaries brought in Jacob Wright on a permanent deal and snapped up Serbian prospect Mirko Topic to add some bite to the midfield.

He’s also replaced Borja Sainz with Pape Amadou Diallo, and bolstered his attack with the £6.9m signing of Mathias Kvistgaarden. So, what else do Norwich need?

Based on their opening three games, there is still work to be done on the pitch, and perhaps in the market, too. If Norwich lose Kellen Fisher and more importantly, Josh Sargent, there’ll be a real need for a new right-back and possibly a new striker.

Ask any Norwich fan, though, and they’ll tell you the team is simply lacking a creative playmaker to slot in behind the front line right now.
