Norwich City in line for Jon Rowe windfall as £17m Bologna move given green light

It’s just under 12 months since Jonathan Rowe left Norwich City for the south of France, joining Ligue Un giants Marseille.

It was originally a loan move with an obligation to buy the winger this summer for a fee that BBC Sport reported to be £17m, as he left England.

However, it’s been a difficult spell in Europe so far for the 22-year-old, and he has not quite had the opportunities to prove himself under Roberto De Zerbi. However, he was one of the stars of the show for England in the U21 European Championships.

Nevertheless, following an incident between himself and ex-PSG midfielder Adrien Rabiot after a defeat to Stade Rennais last week, both players were placed on the transfer list and Rowe has already secured his exit. For Norwich, it lands them even more cash.

How much Norwich City will receive from Jon Rowe move to Bologna

With his Marseille career over, Italian outfit Bologna have made a move for the former Canaries star. FourFourTwo have reported that a deal worth £17m has been agreed between the two clubs, and this nets the Norfolk outfit a windfall.

Norwich had a 25% sell-on clause on their deal for Rowe, and it has been stated by the Pink Un that they will receive around £850,000 from the move, with their reports suggesting that the initial fee is £14.7m with add-ons.

Having come through the Canaries’ academy, it is safe to say that the Championship side have been the real winners from the last 12 months.

Now, Rowe will be looking to help his new team improve on their ninth place finish in Serie A last season with their new campaign set to start this weekend.

The Canaries have fond memories of Jon Rowe

The 22-year-old made 56 appearances for Norwich during his time as a senior member of the squad, with 32 of those coming in the Championship during the 2023/24 campaign.

He scored 12 goals and registered two assists as the Canaries finished in the play-offs, however, they were not able to return to the Premier League for the first time since 2022 as Leeds United ran out 4-0 winners in the semi-final.

It was performances in that campaign that earned him a move to the French top flight, but it was one that never worked out.

Nevertheless, this is a fresh opportunity for Rowe to prove himself in one of Europe’s top five divisions, and those at Norwich will be watching on.
