Liam Manning has had a mixed start to life in the Championship as the Norwich City manager, having experienced the lows in their opener against Millwall before living the highs with their victory over Portsmouth.

The Canaries have been busy in the transfer market this summer as they look to shape the squad to the liking of their new manager, Liam Manning.

Big-name arrivals like Mathias Kvistgaarden have caught the eye, while key talisman Josh Sargent has turned down Bundesliga sides to stay, despite continued interest.

Having lost Borja Sainz already, they don’t want any other major names to go, with Kellen Fisher being the latest linked with a move away.

However, one player may be happy to leave the club if he is deemed to be ‘an inconvenience’ to both the manager and Norwich City.

Kenny McLean on his future at the club

The Norwich City captain has made an open admission to the Pink Un about his future with the club, as he has no desire to remain with the Canaries should he become an inconvenience.

While there is no indication that this will be happening any time soon, as he remains the club captain and part of Manning’s plans.

He said: “Even being 33, I think the age comes into it a lot nowadays. As soon as people get over 30, everybody will think they’re on the way down or whatever.

“That’s fine for people to think that, but I genuinely feel very well within myself. I think I can still contribute a lot to the team, to the club, and I think that’s what people still see from me.

“If I was ever an inconvenience to anybody within the football club or the manager, then I’m sure I would be the first to know. Thankfully that’s not been the conversations that I’ve been having, and they’ve all been positive.

“Even in the stage that I’m at now, I’m still trying to help the lads as much as I can. Not being out on the pitch, I’m still trying to have an influence around the place. I think I’m managing to do that as well as I can, and hopefully the influence will be back on the pitch soon.”

Kenny McLean keen on a return to the Premier League

The Scotland international was part of the last Norwich squad that competed in the Premier League, before they suffered relegation at the end of the 2022 season.

Since then, the Canaries have been competing to make a return but have yet to achieve this ambition; however, there is a feeling among the club that under Manning that this may be achievable, and McLean believes this is the case after speaking with the Pink Un.

He said: “We want to carry that expectation; we want to deliver on that expectation. So it’s down to us to keep that optimism in and around the city and the stadium.

“Obviously the first game of the season wasn’t ideal, but I think fans have got a lot to be excited about. It’s down to us to keep that excitement within the place.

“Going to Portsmouth and the venue, the hostility of the place, the way we saw that game out, it was like a lot of these lads had been playing in this league for a long time.

“The way we handled it was incredible. I think a lot of people have said that maybe we don’t hold onto that last season. I’m not sure; obviously that’s for other people to say, but we have done it this season, and that shows where we are.”
