Michael Duff set to be handed huge Wycombe Wanderers boost after flying start

Michael Duff has made the perfect start to life as Wycombe Wanderers manager.

The Chairboys sacked Mike Dodds after a disappointing start to the season following their League One play-off semi-final heartbreak.

Duff was in the door before Dodds even had time to remove his belongings from the office and it seems to have paid off as the former Barnsley and Huddersfield Town manager has won two from two.

Even after spending a lot of money, the 47-year-old will want to bring his own players in, and it seems like he will be granted that wish.

Wycombe Wanderers will have money to spend in January transfer window

Plans for the January transfer window will be underway already as Duff pinpoints areas that need improvement.

Wycombe’s billionaire owner wants to take them to the next level, and that requires spending money.

EFL Analysis have been told by Chief Football Correspondent Graeme Bailey that the Chairboys will invest in the playing squad after underperforming.

Bailey said: “They know they’re underachieving and obviously they’ve made the change really quickly and yeah clearly they are going to back him.

“They’re getting a good feeling and they will assess the situation but by the time January comes, they hope to be approaching the promotion picture and they’ll be making the changes he sees fit but yeah they’ll be backing him for sure.”

Michael Duff is still learning the names of the Wycombe squad

There is no time to rest in football and Duff has been thrown straight into the deep end with two games.

He kicked off his tenure with a win against Northampton Town before beating Wigan Athletic in the Carabao Cup third round to set up a tie against Fulham.

It has been full throttle and the 47-year-old admitted he is still learning who everyone is.

He told BBC Three Counties Radio: “I’ve managed to have a look at 26 players. If we’d got beat [at Wigan] people would have said, ‘Why have you changed 11?’ but I’m trying to give everyone a go. There’s quite a deep squad here.

“I’m still getting to know their names, never mind what they’re like as players. And it’s [about] getting them to understand that we might not get it right straight away.”
