Middlesbrough have completed the loan signing of Sverre Nypan from Manchester City for the 2025/26 season.

Middlesbrough beat Millwall 3-0 at the weekend, and the Riverside transfer team have continued the positive trajectory into this week.

With the transfer window deadline approaching, Middlesbrough remain “confident” about signing Max Arfsten from Columbus Crew despite their £2.25m bid being rejected by the MLS outfit.

Amid the uncertainty on Arfsten, Middlesbrough have officially confirmed their fifth signing in the summer with the loan capture of Manchester City starlet Sverre Nypan.

Nypan could make his Boro debut on Saturday afternoon against Norwich City, and ahead of the clash, the Norwegian starlet has given his first interview to Middlesbrough.

Sverre Nypan offers exciting insight for Middlesbrough fans

Last week, EFL Analysis confirmed that Middlesbrough were closing in on signing Nypan, and the excitement among Boro fans ramped up after Nypan attended Middlesbrough’s open training session this week.

Middlesbrough were fans were buzzing with Nypan’s arrival, with the young central midfielder arriving on loan from Man City just weeks after Pep Guardiola’s side shelled out over £12m to Rosenborg for his signature.

Now, the 18-year-old has told Middlesbrough’s media how excited he is by the “amazing opportunity” ahead of him this season at the Riverside.

Nypan said: “It’s an amazing opportunity. A lovely club with amazing fans that I’m really looking forward to playing in front of.

“I know it’s a really traditional club with a good fan base. It’s really big in Norway. English football is big in Norway.

“You need to play games when you’re my age and hopefully I can come to Middlesbrough and help the team as much as possible. I can’t wait to get into the team and get to know the players.

“I haven’t gotten that used to the English football, but that’s why I think a loan to Middlesbrough is really nice.

“I’m a pretty physical player but mostly technical. Coming to the Championship, I can hopefully show that I’m a good player, especially on the ball.

“But also, I can learn stuff. The physical part of the Championship is something I’m looking forward to. I like to run and I like the duels.

“I just can’t wait to play against them in the stadium. I think it looks really good. Hopefully, I can just start right away to play. Hopefully, I’ll get a debut on Saturday.”

Sverre Nypan shares similar playstyle to Hayden Hackney

In the words of Nypan, the Boro new boy is a “pretty physical player but mostly technical” player, with his self-appraisal being eerily alike the playstyle of current Middlesbrough star Hayden Hackney.

Despite Hackney turning down Ipswich Town this month, the homegrown midfielder still appears likely to leave Middlesbrough.

EFL Analysis exclusively revealed after he decided to dodge the Tractor Boys, that Middlesbrough want Hackney to leave this summer.

Despite this, Rob Edwards has started Hackney in both Championship wins against Swansea City and Millwall, with the local lad scoring the opening goal at the Den on Saturday.

With Hackney still expected to depart Middlesbrough before the window slams shut, the loan capture of highly-rated central midfielder Nypan will help soften the blow if Hackney is bought before September 1.
