Plymouth Argyle boss Miron Muslic appears to be resigned to his club’s fate – despite their win at the weekend.
The Pilgrims beat Preston North End 2-1 in their penultimate game of the season but it appears that the trap door to League One will almost certainly open next week when they face Championship champions elect, Leeds United.
Although they are only three points away from safety, their goal difference is so bad in comparison to their rivals that it feels like the writing on the wall and Muslic is willing to admit that they’ve fallen short.

Plymouth boss piles praise on players after early setback
Before Plymouth had even kicked a ball they were dealt a setback as Luton Town beat Coventry City 1-0.
That win for the Hatters made the mountain even steeper to climb but Argyle secured an unlikely win in Lancashire and whilst the feeling was disappointment, he was still proud of his side.
“Empty and heart-broken,” Muslic said. “We tried all and we gave it all.
“Believe me, it was not easy for the lads going for the first whistle knowing that Luton scored this unbelievable goal in minute 90 and that we are relegated. That’s a tough one to take.
“But then going outside and be ready to give it all one more time, ready to give it all first of all for us, as a team, and then above all for the Green Army over there. I think around 2,000 travelled here throughout the country shows that we have the right character.
“Unfortunately it was not enough. I think we are going to get relegated because of the goal difference. It’s a tough one to take. It’s a sad, sad day for all of us. It’s over, that’s why we are empty and heart-broken.”
What would it take for Plymouth Argyle to stay up?
Muslic has accepted Plymouth’s fate and that’s fair enough but, until it’s mathematically over, it’s still possible.
With one game to go, Plymouth are three points behind Luton but have a goal difference that is way worse than the Hatters.

| 24 | 45 | 9 | 17 | 19 | 46 | 69 | -23 | 44 |
In order to stay up, the Pilgrims would need to beat Leeds and also hope Luton lose, plus win by at least 12 goals to confirm survival.
It’s pretty much mission impossible.
