Sheffield Wednesday owner Dejphon Chansiri is once again holding the club back from any transfer business as the EFL awaits a response from the Thai owner.
The Owls have been dragged through the mire this summer, with several Sheffield Wednesday issues being pinned on the ownership of Dejphon Chansiri.
Sheffield Wednesday have been placed under embargoes for unpaid players and staff, and whilst they have since been lifted, there is still a transfer fee restriction in place for the club.
Sheffield Wednesday fans are unhappy with Chansiri’s ownership in recent months, with a protest set to take place on the weekend as Hillsborough hosts Stoke City.
Whilst things started to improve in S6, after it was confirmed that the North Stand would be open this season, Sheffield Wednesday have been hit with a fresh concern that rests on Chansiri’s shoulders.

Sheffield Wednesday transfers restricted as EFL wait for Dejphon Chansiri response
It has been revealed, via Andy Giddings on X, that whilst progress is being made by Sheffield Wednesday’s recruitment team to identify players to add to Henrik Pedersen’s lightweight Owls squad, ‘no medicals/signings are due to take place’ at this stage.
This is because the EFL are awaiting a response from Dejphon Chansiri, who needs to satisfy ‘that wages can be paid’ for the new crop of players.
Sheffield Wednesday have been heavily linked with Liam Cooper, the former Leeds United captain with vast Championship experience. Unfortunately, it appears that such a deal will prove difficult until Chansiri can provide communication to the EFL on whether he, in his current capacity, can pay players.

Dejphon Chansiri communication will provide significant concerns for the Owls
Sheffield Wednesday’s turmoil has been caused by a significant lack of communication from the higher-ups at the club. Players have been on record stating that they have heard very little from the club’s owner, even Chris Powell never met Dejphon Chansiri during his time at Sheffield Wednesday.
Whilst this just had a knock-on effect on the current players and staff, particularly regarding uncertainty on their pay, the club will now suffer even more due to the restrictions in place.
Sheffield Wednesday are in dire need of extra bodies through the door, especially those with proven Championship ability. If Chansiri is unable to get in contact with the EFL, it will only further the misery spilling into S6.
