Sheffield United look set to be without one key signing for the trip to Ipswich Town this weekend.

Sheffield United face fellow winless side Ipswich Town on Friday evening as both sides look to bring an end to their dire start to the 2025/26 Championship season.

Ipswich Town have faced woes under the stewardship of Kieran McKenna, whose side currently sit 20th, but they are overshadowed by the difficulties swarming in S2.

Since Ruben Selles took over at Sheffield United, they are yet to notch a point in the Championship, and while Blades owners COH Sports have since significantly recruited in the summer transfer window, pressure still looms over the Spanish boss.

Things are set to be challenging once again for Sheffield United this weekend, who will have to wait to see one blockbuster signing.

Sheffield United will have to wait to see Chiedozie Ogbene

Sheffield United signed Chiedozie Ogbene on loan from Ipswich Town this summer after the Irish winger made it clear that he wanted to move to pastures new for a guarantee of game time.

Unfortunately, Blades supporters will have to wait a while longer to see their new signing, with it expected that Ipswich Town included a clause in his contract that he was unable to play against them.

As a result, Ruben Selles must find a solution to the absence, which could likely see him turn to both Andre Brooks and Louie Barry on either flank, in spite of his side’s attacking woes this season.

Sheffield United have scored only one Championship goal in their opening four fixtures, and there is hope that Ogbene, who was described as ‘fantastic’ by former boss Rob Edwards, via the BBC, could be crucial to providing the Blades with more luck.

Ruben Selles will be feeling the heat ahead of Ipswich Town clash

There is extra scrutiny on Ruben Selles at Sheffield United at this early stage of the season, following a dire start to the season, with many fans already losing faith in the Spanish boss.

Coming up against a fellow beleaguered Championship side will provide his side with an opportunity to overturn their difficult start and begin to get points on the board.

There has been very little to be optimistic about at Sheffield United so far, with the players looking unmotivated out on the pitch. Hopefully, from Selles’ perspective, he has managed to utilise the international break to finally get a tune out of his side.
