Sam Matterface thinks Birmingham City are ‘desperate’ to improve one key position

Birmingham City have been one of the most active sides in the transfer window this summer.

Tom Wagner wants another promotion and will spare at no cost to ensure that Chris Davies has the tools for Birmingham to reach the promised land.

Kyogo Furuhashi joined as a statement signing while the Blues were also able to secure Demarai Gray’s homecoming.

Everyone is tipping Birmingham as Championship promotion contenders but commentator Sam Matterface thinks there is still one position they want to strengthen.

Sam Matterface thinks Birmingham City want another forward

The forward department has seen plenty of new faces come in alongside last season’s high-profile arrival, Jay Stansfield.

As well as Kyogo, Marvin Ducksch joined the Blues to add to Stansfield and Lyndon Dykes.

There are plenty of goals across the pitch, but Matterface thinks that they are still working around the clock to bring in another striker.

Speaking on TalkSPORT, he said: “I was at Birmingham on Wednesday night last week and the vibe I am getting is that they want more in attack. They are desperate for more in attack.

“That is no disrespect to the ones that they have got, but they want to get promoted this year.

“Most people who get promoted from League One don’t go about with the intention of trying to get promoted again.

“Birmingham certainly have that on their agenda and to do that they think they need more goals.”

Birmingham City could still sign big-name player

We know that Birmingham like to leave it late to make their big addition of the summer and it wouldn’t surprise anyone to see them repeat that again.

Stansfield joined permanently for £15m late in the transfer window last season and if they were to get another big name in, they may have to wait until the end again

Some reports have claimed Birmingham could make a sensational move for Aleksandar Mitrovic to bring him back to England from Saudi Arabia.

It’s those sorts of additions that could propel the club to the next level and leave the other Championship clubs miles behind.
