This summer has been a nightmare for everyone involved at Sheffield Wednesday.
With just over a week to go until they officially kick off for the 2025/26 Championship campaign, the Owls have not made a single signing. Meanwhile, Josh Windass has signed for Wrexham and Michael Smith is now at Preston North End.
Supporters are not happy with one detail on their kit, with their shirt also lacking in quality compared to West Brom’s and just about everything that could go wrong has gone wrong.
However, there are some very minor silver linings. Ike Ugbo scored against Mansfield Town in a friendly and Barry Bannan continues to train with the club, but now Sheffield Wednesday have another game booked in.

Sheffield Wednesday set to face Burnley in next pre-season test
The Owls have played every single one of their pre-season friendlies behind-closed-doors so far, and they are set to do so once again on Saturday.

According to The Star, Danny Rohl’s side are scheduled to face a Burnley XI at the Clarets’ training ground at the weekend, while the bulk of the Premier League team’s squad play Stoke City in front of supporters at the bet365 Stadium.
Nevertheless, this will be Sheffield Wednesday’s greatest test so far, having played lower league opposition in all of their pre-season matches to date.
So far, the Owls have faced Manchester City’s U23s, York City and Mansfield, winning all three matches as preparations continue for the new Championship campaign.

The Owls are behind in their preparations compared to their rivals
Leicester City await Sheffield Wednesday in the South Yorkshire outfit’s first fixture of the season, and it must be said that they are much further behind their rivals in every department.
The Owls’ transfer ban has made it near-impossible to entice new faces to the club, while Dejphon Chansiri continues to be the owner, despite slashing the price of Wednesday by £50m.

It’s hard to say that anything other than relegation is on the cards for the side who play their football at Hillsborough, and the reality of the season kicking off may be tough to take for those associated with the team.
