Sheffield Wednesday captain Barry Bannan has lifted the lid on his last conversation with the Owls owner during a private Zoom call.

Sheffield Wednesday continue to be embroiled in turmoil ahead of the 2025/26 Championship campaign, and the silence from owner Dejphon Chansiri is deafening.

With the opening weekend clash against Leicester City fast approaching, some Sheffield Wednesday players may go on strike over the owner’s failure to pay players and staff in July.

The Sheffield Wednesday fans are planning to protest at Leicester, to bring international recognition to “harm and pain Chansiri is causing” at the Owls.

After Barry Bannan signed a new Sheffield Wednesday contract, the Owls skipper has lifted the lid on his last meeting with Chansiri.

Barry Bannan reveals what was said in last meeting with Dejphon Chansiri

This week, the Sheffield Wednesday players sent a message in writing about their fears with payment issues and what the future holds for the historic EFL club.

Bannan appeared on TalkSport on Tuesday morning to bring light to the situation in S6, and made a shocking revelation about his last contact with Chansiri.

Jeff Stelling asked: “Do you ever see the chairman? Do you ever speak to the chairman (Dejphon Chansiri?”

To which, Bannan replied: “I spoke to him over the summer holidays, I had him on a Zoom call and I think that was probably when we were just over two months not being paid, that was the last time I spoke to him.

“It was just asking the questions you can imagine, about pay and stuff, and he was really sorry and trying his best to get us paid as quickly as possible.

“That was the last time I spoke to the chairman directly.”

The silence from Chansiri is unacceptable given the plight that Sheffield Wednesday are in, but the Owls have been given renewed hope for a potential takeover.

John Textor takeover talks at Sheffield Wednesday ramp up again

Reports emerged in late June that billionaire businessman John Textor was “considering” a Sheffield Wednesday takeover.

Despite Chansiri’s Sheffield Wednesday valuation seemingly out of touch with the club’s current plight, speculation has ramped up again that former Crystal Palace co-owner Textor could take over from Chansiri.

As per reports in Brazil, John Textor has a plan to buy Sheffield Wednesday, and is also looking at their Championship rivals Watford.

However, despite his recorded interest in the Owls, the latest developments could point towards the Chansiri era finally ending at Hillsborough.

It could also be a case of out of the frying pan and into the fire for the Owls, given Textor’s role in Lyon’s relegation earlier this summer.
