Sheffield Wednesday have had a dismal start to the season, and the situation is only getting bleaker in S6.
Grimsby Town’s manager David Artell felt sorry for the Owls after the League Two side knocked Henrik Pedersen’s team out of the Carabao Cup on Tuesday evening, as a failed boycott of the tie frustrated many supporters of the South Yorkshire outfit.
It’s a return to Championship action this weekend for Sheffield Wednesday, and with just one point on the board, the situation is a pressing one for those at Hillsborough.
More experience is needed, but after the club were put under a new double embargo, they were denied the opportunity to sign a former Leeds United star.

Sheffield Wednesday miss out on signing Liam Cooper
Liam Cooper left the Whites last summer, bringing to an end a 10-year association with Elland Road as he made his way to Bulgaria to join CSKA Sofia.

However, his time in Europe ended quickly, and just a year later a return to the Championship looked to be on the cards with Sheffield Wednesday, according to The Star.
But, the Owls are unable to sign the 34-year-old due to their embargo, with clubs under restrictions not allowed to bring in a free agent if they have more than 16 players in their squad with three or more league starts at this level or higher.
Therefore, Sheffield Wednesday are stuck with their current squad until these new embargo restrictions are removed.

Liam Cooper’s Championship experience would have been perfect for the Owls
Injuries are a huge threat to the Owls this season, and they have already suffered with Nathaniel Chalobah suffering an issue on the opening day of the campaign.
Cooper is a natural leader, and after captaining Leeds during his time in West Yorkshire, missing out on this experience will be a huge loss for Pedersen and Sheffield Wednesday.

The Owls make the long journey to Fratton Park on Saturday as they face Portsmouth away from home, and there will be fears that their winless start to the campaign continues with Pompey flying so far.
Nevertheless, the situation involving Cooper is just another side effect of the issues that have surrounded Sheffield Wednesday throughout the last few months.
