Sheffield Wednesday fans can’t understand failed Dejphon Chansiri boycott for Grimsby Town clash

Sheffield Wednesday supporters have been left disappointed by the number of tickets that have been sold for the Carabao Cup clash against Grimsby Town.

The Owls fanbase have organised a boycott for the fixture and all league cup clashes, with them following the same procedure in their shock victory over Leeds United in the previous round.

Visiting Grimsby Town bought the extra 2,000 tickets offered to them, but fans plan to boycott buying any food or drink within the ground in solidarity with the Championship club’s protests against owner Dejphon Chansiri. Sheffield Wednesday fans have already pointed them to alternative spots nearby.

However, ticket sales for the fixture have now been revealed, and a section of Wednesdayites are baffled by how many have been sold.

At the time of writing, over 3,200 tickets have been sold in Wednesday’s South Stand.

The Sheffield Wednesday Supporters’ Trust have advised fans who are going to wear black and gold, display their protest scarves and join in the protests.

Some Wednesday fans can’t understand why tickets had been sold, though, with one writing: “I genuinely want to know people’s reasoning for going to this game. I honestly don’t understand.”

“I don’t care what excuse people have. Those 3k should NOT be going at all end of,” another said.

“They are giving Chansiri fuel, ffs wake up,” a third added.

Henrik Pedersen to field young XI against Grimsby Town

If it’s not broken, don’t fix it. That’s Henrik Pedersen’s policy ahead of their third round Carabao Cup clash against Grimsby after seeing off Premier League Leeds United on penalties last time out.

“We will go in with the same mentality as in the other games,” he said. “We will have a young team, we will go and do everything we can to have a top performance and to win this football game. It will be a good evening again, I’m sure.

“I have a big group of young players with a big hunger and a big confidence. I know they are all really looking forward to it so much and I know they will go into it with an open heart and an open mind to this football game.”

Wednesday youngsters Ernie Weaver, Reece Johnson and Jarvis Thornton are among the starlets who are expected to have earned themselves a spot in Wednesday’s XI.
