Sheffield Wednesday have been in financial hardship throughout the summer as a result of owner Dejphon Chansiri.
Sheffield Wednesday will play their 2025/26 Championship opener against Leicester City despite the club’s financial crisis.
Under owner Dejphon Chansiri, one of English football’s greatest clubs has endured hardship in every department.
Sheffield Wednesday fans will protest against Chansiri at the King Power Stadium on Saturday afternoon, with the club on the brink of collapse.
Ahead of the opening fixture, one Sheffield Wednesday reporter has explained what elements of football club ownership Chansiri failed to understand, which has led to the Owls’ crisis.

Sheffield Wednesday explains where Dejphon Chansiri failed before Owls crisis
Chansiri has made many misgivings over recent months, which have led to the Owls’ financial crisis and summer exodus.
The Thai businessman took over the Owls in 2015 by acquiring a 100 percent stake in the club from former owner Milan Mandaric for £37.5m.
A decade later, the club is on the brink of collapse, and one Sheffield Wednesday reporter has lifted the lid on what Chansiri ‘never really took seriously’.
BBC Sheffield reporter Rob Staton told BBC Breakfast: “When Dejphon Chansiri took over, there was a lot of hope and optimism.
“He spent a lot of money, perhaps spent too much money. Having people at the club who can help you run it where just not things that Chansiri ever really took seriously.
“Really, the only seeming future for the club is for him to sell to someone who can take this forward, because Sheffield Wednesday just can’t go on existing like they are right now.”

John Textor could be Sheffield Wednesday’s saviour amid takeover talks
American billionaire businessman John Textor could be the saviour from Chansiri that Sheffield Wednesday so desperately need.
Textor has been linked with Wednesday throughout the summer, and EFL Analysis understands that takeover talks regarding the former Crystal Palace co-owner could be real.
Textor’s interest in Sheffield Wednesday is “genuine”, but Chansiri is still proving difficult to negotiate with.
After all the controversy at Hillsborough Stadium this summer, the wider football community and the Owls faithful are hoping that Chansiri finally exits Sheffield Wednesday soon.
